Nationwider Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 Link Some wild-cards in this lot: Paul Collingwood (Durham, capt), Ravi Bopara (Essex), Stuart Broad (Leicestershire), Andrew Flintoff (Lancashire), James Kirtley (Sussex), Darren Maddy (Warwickshire), Kevin Pietersen (Hampshire), Matt Prior (Sussex, wkt), Chris Schofield (Surrey), Owais Shah (Middlesex), Ryan Sidebottom (Nottinghamshire), Jeremy Snape (Leicestershire), Vikram Solanki (Worcestershire), Chris Tremlett (Hampshire), Luke Wright (Sussex). Luke Wright and Chris Schofield have come from nowhere. In the case of Wright, it's all very well biffing some pie-throwers around on the county circuit, but will he be able to do the same against Malinga, Tait or Mularitharan? It's good to see Broad and Maddy included. Paul Nixon has been very harshly treated though.
Flynny Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 Paul Nixon has been very harshly treated though. My thoughts exactly. No reason Nixon and Prior shouldn't both start, I at least expected him in the 15. Nixon seems to be a superior wicket-keeper, too, from what I've seen, especially in the one-day game. Very harsh indeed.

He has been fantastic throughout all formats of English cricket, and i reckon he will be successful in the Twenty20 World Cup. Darren Maddy also included is another good call-up for England. Very experienced at the top of the order, and will prove to be a hit....i hope. As for Broady Good luck to the youngster
Nationwider Posted 6 August 2007 Author Posted 6 August 2007 Where.Is. Montgomery? Tippexed out and replaced with Chris Schofield apparently. One "specialist" too many in my opinion. They already have Jezza Snape's lollipop bowling. The Sikh Of Tweak should have been in, no doubt.
Samu Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 From that 15 what would everyone's team be? I think the definites should be: Maddy Prior KP Collingwood Flintoff Broad then I would chose Snape ahead of Schofield, Wright (he's the inform man), Bopara, Kirtley and either Shah or Sidebottom...I think. My line up would look like this Maddy Prior Wright KP Collingwood Flintoff Bopara Snape Broad Kirtley Sidebottom/Shah (not sure here) Even without Shah there are still enough bowlers in the team (Kirtley, Snape, Broad, Flintoff, Colly, Maddy, Wright, Bopara)
Geo V Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 At least we are finally trying something to succeed. Having Vaughan in and all these bit part players and no specialists was painful to watch in the World Cup just gone, especially when Loye looked like he could cause some problems in the warm-up games before we chose teh safe option. Lets hope it works.
