Micky Ruddle Posted 14 August 2007 Posted 14 August 2007 Cash strapped once again If Milan was also a Basketball fan....
Dames Posted 14 August 2007 Posted 14 August 2007 Basketball isn't really big here anyway. Not like they could go on forever with such a small fanbase.
inmemoryofdoreen Posted 15 August 2007 Posted 15 August 2007 its been going on for 40 years and it would work here if we had someone to run it properly, they have lost a bank loan that would have enabled them to play this season and try and build something for the future, but the bank have pulled out, can`t say i blame the bank because no one is running the club apart from volunteers and theres no real long term business plan. the fans are treated appallingly and are never told anything, we had to stand out in the street last season at one game because the doors were locked because of a meeting to persuade the players to play because they hadn`t been paid and this is the only thing that made them tell us what was going on then otherwise i don`t think we would have been told anything until it folded.
dandannieldanok Posted 15 August 2007 Posted 15 August 2007 If Milan was also a Basketball fan.... Even though he isn't it would be a good gesture to donate the money, if I had his cash I certainly would, after all it said they only need £100,000, that's pocket money to MM.
inmemoryofdoreen Posted 15 August 2007 Posted 15 August 2007 he won`t he`s a through and through football man. i know for a fact from a portsmouth fan who`s a friend of mine that a group of portsmouth fans approached him in the past about ressurecting their failed basketball franchise and he said no and that was for less money. he told them all his time and effort was spent at establishing portsmouth in the premier league and thats exactly what he his doing here at this time. its a last resort beg from the club and more is needed than that to give riders a future.

So... How grateful would the Riders be though if he did hand money over.

He should amalgamate them with the Football. Most of the successful european clubs also have basketball teams connected with the club-could also put a few bums on seats!
inmemoryofdoreen Posted 16 August 2007 Posted 16 August 2007 So...How grateful would the Riders be though if he did hand money over. very grateful i`m sure and i hope he does just can`t see it. if i`m wrong about him i`ll be the 1st to admit it. football links work in europe because of the interest in basketball its huge in spain and greece and eastern europe. they get 20000 at games , riders get about 800 . they have tv deals the bbl has nothing except a deal with mktv which isn`t exactly widely available. riders don`t even get much coverage in the local media. football links were tried before, man utd, portsmouth and glasgow rangers all tried it but it didn`t last long. everton are trying it at the moment with a new bbl franchise called everton tigers so we`ll see what happens with that.
