Bryn Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 Couldn't see this posted elsewhere, apologies if it is. Hume Makes Team Of The WeekPosted on: Tue 28 Aug 2007 Leicester City striker Iain Hume has been named in the Championship team of the week. Hume scored a stunning drive from fully 25 yards to set the Foxes on their way to a 4-1 demolition of Watford at the Walkers Stadium last weekend. And his efforts on the day have been rewarded in the Championship select side, which is made up of players who were deemed to have performed the best at the weekend by a judging panel. Hume is the first player to have gained selection to the weekly selected squad this campaign to date. Geo V Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 You hammer the leaders of the division and pre-season favs 4-1 and one player squeezes into the team due to a wonder goal. I doubt whether these planks actually look at things like all-round performance as I`d very much doubt that there was a better midfield performance than Weso in the Championship last weekend. BTW, I knew that Dimi Konstantopoulos would be an amazing free transfer for Covscum from Hartlepool. I wish we had him instead of Nielsen but at least we have Fulop for now.
Bryn Posted 28 August 2007 Author Posted 28 August 2007 I'm happy with Fulop, promising and has his whole career ahead of him.

At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter that we only had one player in the team of the week. Since at the end of the season, that won't actually make a difference to our final position if the team plays well, wins, but doesn't get in the old team of the week! Course, it would be nice to be recognised for playing well.
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 Keeps our star players out of the limelight, I'm not complaining!!

Fair point but it would be nice for players to be recognized for performance as that would increase confidence in the long run.

Oh, I agree it would be good for their performance, but I like to think the confidence would come more from the knowledge that their own performance was outstanding and not some random team of the week award.

True but players like to be recognized and win awards and these weekly teams all go towards collating the points for player of the month. I know it seems quite meaningless but sportsman love to win things as it makes them feel appreciated. I can remember good old Alan Paris was made up when he won our player of the season award in the bad old days that he was smiling for what seemed like a month
