Mort Posted 30 August 2007 Posted 30 August 2007 In amongst all the histrionics's and pantomime that seem to have characterized LCFC over the last few days, it's worth thinking what state the players might be in. Yes, modern footballers are often a good deal more prepared for rapid changes in the management, coaching staff, playing staff and even ownership, but i cant help thinking that with Clarky nearly dieing the other night and the almighty bust-up between Allen and Mandaric might have shaken a few of the players, especially after getting such a smashing result last Saturday. The likes of Weso, Sheehan, Mattock, Porter and to a lesser extent Hume and Kizza are going to be familiar with the caretaker management, but plenty of our players wont be and its gotta be times like this that the skipper and senior players show some leadership and "lead" the team (minimizing what ever impact the last few days might have had and concentrating on going out and winning on Saturday), time for Clemence to step up to the plate?
The Reverend Posted 30 August 2007 Posted 30 August 2007 Clemence ready to lend steadying hand by Bill Anderson The man charged with steering the squad through this latest upset at Leicester City will be skipper Stephen Clemence, the man Martin Allen was determined to bring in as his team leader. The former Tottenham and Birmingham City man is, at £750,000, one of the major signings made in the summer, and he will find his leadership qualities in demand to keep everything on an even keel. Clemence said: “Martin Allen brought me to the club and made me captain and I wanted to do well, but things happen at all football clubs. “When I was at Spurs there were a lot of managerial changes. At Birmingham, it was a bit more stable but we all know that nothing is ever certain in football. “There had been a lot of speculation and, with all that has been going on, obviously something had to happen to end all the rumours. “It is not nice when people lose their jobs and it is not just the manager. However, the chairman has a vision and an ambition for this football club and there has clearly been a difference of opinion. “As a player and captain, I have to get on with it and concentrate our efforts towards Plymouth and the rest of the squad will do that as well.†Mandaric was scheduled to hold a meeting with all of the City players this morning before training. The training itself would be under the guidance of academy director John Rudkin, coach Steve Beaglehole and goalkeeping coach Mike Stowell.
Lord Nibblington Posted 30 August 2007 Posted 30 August 2007 It will be interesting to see the players reactions to what has clearly been a bizzare week.

The Reverend Posted 30 August 2007 Posted 30 August 2007 I think it and he does it... Clemence IS the man though.
Mort Posted 30 August 2007 Author Posted 30 August 2007 Clemence IS the man though. To be honest I've got complete confidence in the bloke as a "leader", just think it's going to be put to the test over the next few days.

Indeed, it could be a difficult few days for him, but he is a quality player and a leader and will deal with his duties as best he can.
sdb Posted 30 August 2007 Posted 30 August 2007 we'll get a good viewing of all the players true characters this weekend. oh yeh.
Koke Posted 30 August 2007 Posted 30 August 2007 Plymouth is cursed - I'm not expecting anything from there.
Simon Posted 30 August 2007 Posted 30 August 2007 The senior players; in particular Clemence, but also N'Gotty, Kishishev etc. will be important in steadying the rest of the lads through this difficult period. The minds of the players are going to be all over the place and it will be up to them as well as the coaches we have left to get the lads through and out the other side.
Geo V Posted 30 August 2007 Posted 30 August 2007 The players must be wondering whats going on, especially when most of this first team squad are MA signings. Still, we have a bunch of professional lads there (he says hopefully) and Clemence isn't the type of character to sit back and worry so I think he can pick the lads up and with the assistance of the temporary management team, hopefully we can continue to improve as a side. All we need now is someone to come in and make Elvis captain though
