dandannieldanok Posted 5 October 2007 Posted 5 October 2007 Why Alan Smith? Why Phil Neville? And I really hope Carson gets a start, the other two's inconsistency is alarming.

Not as alarming as Scott Carsons general not very goodness. Although Robinsons clearly not good enough to be in the squad at the moment judging by some of the goals he's been letting in, David James for me. Fully deserved call up for Lesscott though he's been immense. His general play has been excellent and he's been scoreing goals.

Agree on both points - James has a slightly better goal to game ratio than Robbo at the mo, although the England defence is aruguably much better than the Spurs back line. And Lescott was brilliant the other night in the UEFA Cup. What has he got now - 5 in 5?? I'll bet him to score for England..

I'll bet his confidence is the highest it's ever been. I hope he gets a game, and if he does, then I'll bet he'll score
Charnwood Norris Posted 5 October 2007 Posted 5 October 2007 Andy Johnson's looked poop recently, so did Defoe (esp. the other night against that Cypriot team) and probably wouldn't have got in the team 10 years ago based on current form; just shows that we don't have many top English strikers to choose from. It'll be shocking if they start instead of Ashton who's looked good so far this season. I'd go with this: James Richards, Ferdinand, Terry, A.ColeJ.Cole, Gerrard, Barry, Wright PhillipsAshton (Owen if fit), Rooney

Its just such a shame that some decent young English strikers who could develop to be of real high standard like Bent and Defoe cant get a game for their club sides. Throw in Peter Crouchs lack of form due to being benched all the time and theer lies part of the problem we have with many of our strikers. They dont get picked for their club sides! Why Defoe in particular doesn't move on I don't understand.
