Geo V Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007 Is it that the players are more fit, the three centre-halfs or even something like the fact that we are more organized?! I haven't a clue whether GM has anything to do with not conceding late goals but whatever is the cause of it lets hope it remains forever. I still haven't recovered from Middlesbro`s two in injury time.

Geo V Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007 oh that was such a killer Im sure that was the same season we managed to turn a 3-0 lead at Wolves into a 4-3 defeat which included a late goal and a 4-3 lad at Spurs go wrong thanks to Defoe. Oh Happy Days
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007 I'm going to wait and see over the next few games see how we go saturday was a game we were expected to win, But it wazs always going to take time for Megson to make his mark on a squad and to install he's way of thinking to the players
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007 One thing that can be said of Megson about his time at West Brom is he knew how to defend.
Lillehamring Posted 8 October 2007 Author Posted 8 October 2007 but that is exactly the point - they were all games where we could easily have dropped points (more points) but from what i can gather we stayed tight and strong til the final whistle, something we've found almost impossible to do in recent years... i mean, look at villa last season, by all accounts we played great, but slipped up in the closing period, this year we held our lead to prevent even going into extra time. and when other teams see we are conceeding less than a goal a game, they are immediately conscious of this and confidence can dip as a result.
Stuliasz Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007 I'll tell you what doesn't help with this. At home, when things are a bit nervey towards the end, the crowd start stiring up panic by screeching "out" "get out". It's a horrible noise. Its also not helped by the middle aged women who physically scream any time the ball is in the vicinity of the penalty area.

Oh Happy Days Sure can't imagine that happening under Megson. For a start I doubt we'll get three goals very often but no it would be strange indeed if a Megson defence conceded four times in a game let alone part of one. And even more unlikely after we'd been 3-0 up. People would demand a stewards enquiry!

Guess we'll find out soon enough - that's the idea if we wanna be playing premier league football anytime soon! :fingerscrossedsmileyfase:
