Muz Posted 1 March 2005 Posted 1 March 2005 Evatt attracting Chesterfield manager Roy McFarland has stated the club will not stand in Ian Evatt's way, should they receive an acceptable offer for the midfielder. The Spireites made the comments following reports that Championship sides Leicester City and Coventry City were showing interest in the 23-year-old. McFarland confirmed that the club have already turned down both a verbal and a written bid from League One rivals Bristol City for the former Derby County trainee last week. However, the Saltergate boss also confirmed to skysports.com that no formal contact had been received from either Leicester or Coventry for the Chesterfield captain. Representatives from The Foxes were at Saltergate to watch Evatt in Saturday's 3-1 defeat to struggling Peterborough United while Sheffield United have also been mentioned as having an interest in the midfielder. Despite the seemingly growing interest in Evatt, McFarland admitted they would not stop the midfielder from leaving the North Derbyshire side, should The Spireites receive the right valuation for the player. "With football being football, we have told Ian that we will not stand in his way if any offer is big enough and he wants to go to that particular club," McFarland told the club's official website. "I am hoping that they [bristol City] don't come back or any other clubs make offers, because I would like Ian to stay and develop his football here and be the backbone of the team for years to come." My mate is a spireite fan and he says Evatt is a good player and fights for the cause
SilverFox Posted 1 March 2005 Posted 1 March 2005 Trouble is it is so difficult to tell what you are going to get when you shop in the lower leagues. Although it shouldn't be totally discounted. Matty Elliot turned out alright.

step Posted 1 March 2005 Posted 1 March 2005 Its also difficult to buy players from the higher leagues. A player might look realy good for one team and when the move they end up crap.
SilverFox Posted 1 March 2005 Posted 1 March 2005 Well he can't be all that because we haven't made any approach yet!
Steven Posted 2 March 2005 Posted 2 March 2005 Foxes Trust on another forum are saying that CL enquired about a player he expected to pay 250k for and was quoted a £1 million. That may be Evatt or it may not be. That naturally ended interest from CL. <_<
