sam_lcfc Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Looking at the LCFC website I was appauled to see that the reserves have had only 2 games scheduled between 28th November and 16th January!...and 1 of these was postponed!!! Unless there are friendlies that are 'off-record' this seems terrible, when this is often the best way for unfit players or players coming back from injury to get some game time. Or players in bad form to get back into shape....thats quite alot of players mind you!! I also seem to remember they weren't even entered in a league in a previous season!! People that go and watch the reserves...my full respect!!!... but what actually is the standard like?

And those teams that play reserve games at the main home ground won't want their pitch getting an even bigger hammering over the Xmas period.
Fox You Forest Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Im pretty sure Tharcian is about to let you know in as much detail as humanly possible.

Good point it is important to keep everyone match fit over the christmas period and not let all our reserve players get injured

I just hope they have competitive practice/friendly matches at the training ground. Do teams ever get invited to play there? Doesn't explain why there was no reserve team entered in a league in a previous season....?
Nationwider Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Doesn't explain why there was no reserve team entered in a league in a previous season....? There was a reason for that. I can't remember it though. I've just taken two Tramadol tablets and I can't really remember anything, to be honest. I feel woozy.

People that go and watch the reserves...my full respect!!!... but what actually is the standard like? This season it has been naff though games are usually well worth watching for different reasons. With so many footballers swanning around in need of a game there has not really been an established side which would provide the proper platform for development. To start with there was the newly arrived foreign contingent involving Nielsen, Kaebi, Ferreira and Djiziri. Nielsen had been intended for the first team and the other three never really established themselves anywhere. Porter's absence injured didn't help and the same went for Hayes, Joe Magunda and Ryan Beswick. Altogether it has been a hit and miss exercise. First teamers don't usually go through reserves games on their way back from injury, for whatever reason. Instead the side is generally used for the further advancement of the older or better Academy players or for the younger potential first team signings (Kaebi/Hayes/Hellings etc). I think senior players can volunteer for reserves games - Kenton and Maybury played, for instance as did one or two more on individual occasions. Three seasons ago the Reserves looked much more a unit. It has a core of talented Academy graduates. The team played to a pattern and formed an understanding. These days the club is like a transit yard and I doubt it will be any different in the second half of the season.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 ......what after they had forgotton to enter a team they thought they should come up with a token reason?!haha lay off the drugs! They only allowed Premiership sides to play in the Premier reserve league so any club outside of the Premiership had to find an alternative. For whatever reason we decided against entering a different league last season and just played the odd behind closed doors friendly. It might have been because the first team squad wasn't that big or we didn't fancy the travelling, I'm not sure. The Walkers Stadium pitch looked very rough after the FA Youth Cup game on Tuesday. Thankfully we don't play reserve games there on a regular basis too.

The pitch could be a quagmire too but the football was still better and more exciting.
Nationwider Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 I remember going to a few Monday night games at Filbo with quite big attendances. I'm sure we got 10,000+ for one fixture against Man Utd about 10 years ago.

Can't remember who else played for them but it was a big crowd. Think three stands were open for it.

This lasted for some seasons until the novelty wore off.
