Daz.I Posted 13 January 2008 Posted 13 January 2008 Oakleys a Vet just what we needed , best Midfield in the league?
Cobbo Posted 13 January 2008 Posted 13 January 2008 Oakley was brilliant. Calm and collected with abaility. Cracking stuff. Having him and Clem here will also help King and Weso no end I think.
Ultra Posted 15 January 2008 Posted 15 January 2008 Indeed. Let's hope they help Kingy and Weso to develop into Premier League quality players. Long-term, that's the standard we have to be looking for.
Masujopa Posted 15 January 2008 Posted 15 January 2008 I've been reading your comments on Oakley and would just like to add mine. He was a class act for us last season - tireless worker, good passer, fine striker of the ball (scored some cracking goals last year, esp Vs West Brom (h) and Ipswich (a)), and although not a vocal captain, led by example. At prem level, he just needed a fraction too long on the ball, and although still our best player this season, was a whisker short of Prem class. A wonderful signing for you, at a bargain price, to add to the 20 goal a season Howard. I'm a West Midlands Ram, so don't share the mutual East Midlands hatred, and would be delighted if you get in the play-offs, as reward for Oakley and Howard - two top class pros, who give everything. Howard will win you so much possession and territory in the final third, its unbelieveable. It will be a lesson in common sense to Mr Jewell, as we will be looking for EXACTLY these type of players next season.

Masujopa Posted 15 January 2008 Posted 15 January 2008 Savage? I've always thought he's a good dead ball specialist, and all teams need someone like him, but realistically you have to have the class elsewhere (eg Lennon) to get the best out of his style. - in short, a team full of Savages is useless, but every team needs one. I think he's a little past his best now, although Savage AND Oakley in the same midfield would be ideal at CCC level.
Ultra Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 Savage is a player in decline, which is why Mark Hughes was happy to get rid, especially at the price Derby paid for him! He might do OK in the lower leagues next season though..
