Fulop

He starred for us and now they want £3m. The same will happen with Alnwick if he performs well.

The only thing to do then is spot Alnwicks potential early on in his appearances for us (which we have) then, seeing as how we shan't be making the paly-offs this season, tell him to play mediocre football so we can sign him next season for a small fee and still get promoted meaning that everybodies a winner then ;)

Very true.....in an ideal LCFC world, but why would any club loaning out their players agree to such a deal that may well cost them money?

For example would we be happy if Odihambo was loaned out with a "sell for £250,000 clause at the end of the season" and then he goes and proves himself to be worth much more than that, but we had to sell because of the clause we had signed???

Somehow I dont think so :doh::doh:

There are certain loan signings that you know that clubs don't want to sell but if you look at Fulop as an example, he was classed as the clubs third best keeper and surplus enough to go out on a season long loan. Ok his situation was a tad different as he was Hungarys No1 but look at Alnwick who has been here for 5 mins and without playing for us said he "like the look of the club and would consider a move". Surely if one of our players goes out on loan and says something like that we would expect there futures to be away from the club anyway?

BTW we managed to take the Hungarian lads on loan with a view to a permanent deal didn't we?

I do see what you are saying and some loan deals are slightly different to others, but in the case of the two goalkeepers, who are both young and good prospects, which is afterall what we were talking about, then there is the potential for these players to be of a much greater value to the club that has loaned them if they prove there worth..... obviously Fulop did that while with us. So Keane would not have been very popular if he had agreed a sell clause for £750,000 when it has now become evident that he could get twice as much for him. Surely that is why Higher placed clubs loan out there periferal players......to see if they can "cut the mustard" in competative football

Maybe but remember Fulop was on the books and not getting a game when Keano spent £8m on Gordon. That in itself would send him further down the order and if I am right he has only played 5 or 6 games for Sunderland all told?

I don't mind getting players in on loan although we have to be careful that we don't get too many that aren't potential signings as long term it harms the club. Birmingham did well last season with their players gathered in on loan like the trio from Arsenal in Muamba, Bentdner and Larrson as two of those ending up staying with the club.
