Who ate all the pies? Posted 23 March 2005 Posted 23 March 2005 Affter seeing Coalville lose against Racing club Warwick last night, and taking in to account citys league form, I was beginning to wonder! What do you think...I think it tends to have a bad effect, as it causes too many games.
Mark Posted 23 March 2005 Posted 23 March 2005 Bad effect definately. You just have to look at Millwall last season after getting to the Semi Finals and then the Final itself, i don't think they won a game to the remaining 2-3 months of the season so fell out of the playoff places and finished mid table.
Ash Posted 23 March 2005 Posted 23 March 2005 Bad effect - Players seem to lose concentration on the the teams league position & concentrate alot more on winning in the cup, it can also effect the fans & the fans have a big influence on the team.
Who ate all the pies? Posted 23 March 2005 Author Posted 23 March 2005 That's what I was thinking...although I guess it depends on the team, I mean Chelsea aren't doing crap in the league! And I suppose we were crap before the cup run!
Scow Posted 23 March 2005 Posted 23 March 2005 The same thing happened with Newcastle when they reached the FA Cup final a few years back. Between the semi final and the final, they failed to win any game during that period. Cup games seemed to ignite motivation, with the league acting as a downer thereafter. It was nice having this cup run, but I think it has held us back in the league. At least the income gained from the cup has enabled us to purchase the likes of Hughes and McCarthy.
foxesfan69 Posted 24 March 2005 Posted 24 March 2005 The players should be professional enough to put each different competition to the back of their minds. They are paid enough money.
C-man Posted 24 March 2005 Posted 24 March 2005 Footballers these days should be fit enough to play more games, and not moan about it, but when it causes us to play 3 gamesin 6 days, it obviously has a bad effect, but it can also be positive if the team gains confidence and the fans get behind the team, like we should at the Walkers!!!!!!!!!
Guest Posted 24 March 2005 Posted 24 March 2005 People remember the cup runs that coincide with poor league form, but I'm sure there have just as many occasions where the opposite has happened. As for City, I don't think it's helped the league form, however it has earned some valuable cash, and realistically, we'd have been lucky to make the play-offs. I'm sure we'll pick up enough points to stay up from now on.
