People moan about our strikers, but the point is that they need the service. Ever since Izzet left, there has been nobody in midfield, no playmaker general, who can stroke the ball around. They are all workers, busymen, going around like headless chickens trying to chance the ball.

Why has ever manager since O'Neill failed to realize this? You need somebody who can open it up, somebody with a little flair to get the fans excited. Hollohead obviously fails to see this as well.

Also, does anybody know the average wage of the City squad?

Please don't get me on the subject because while we're getting relegated it's one of our players who's writing a fairytale for Bournemouth by managing to undo so many defences that he may just save their handicapped season.

Wouldn't it have been nice if we could have given the biggest standing ovation in memory to a member of our team? We've been bloody mad this season. Talk about committing footballing suicide.

There's Gradel a God at Bournemouth, Shush! helping Leeds to a long unbeaten run and a play-off place, our own goalscorer of the Year Andy King lanquishing in the reserves, dead ball specialist and natural wide man Ryan Beswick overlooked for all and sundry and we've got people complaining there's no-one to unlock defences.

There's not but only because we prefer to patronise the foreign state circus, loanees who by definition aren't wanted by their own clubs and others whose days of doing 90 minutes on a football field have long gone when the players we've really needed have been ours already.

And when has King had any sort of run in the team?

Or been given proper licence to do what he's best at?

He was always expendable, a bit part player asked to do a no-risk holding job while the Chosen Men were always guaranteed a return whatever he did.

After scoring our goal of the season he was sidelined and conveniently allowed o lose his match fitness through a total lack of games as the reserves didn't have a single mach during one month.

When they did play against he scored and made goals virtually every match. Our central midfielders aren't likely to score cos they hardly ever have a shot. Oakley? Nineteen games no goals. What sort of a midfield player is that?

But he's not exactly disgraced himself either.

I was discussing over the weekend whether the availability of funds and the pressure that brings has meant our managers haven't been brave enough to blood some of the youngsters. We used to have the likes of Stuart Campbell, Stuart Wilson, Stefan Oakes, all getting blooded in and being useful members of the squad, even though they were never really destined to play at the highest level.

I appreciate this is a red rag to a Thracian bull , but I do think you have a point on that Thrac.
