GUN cops at Heathrow discovered a notorious hijacker at the wheel of a car they pulled over – and were amazed to learn he had a JOB there.

Nazamuddin Mohammidy, 34 – hired to clean British Airways offices – is one of nine Afghans who threatened to blow up an airliner during a four-day siege at Stansted in 2000.

Armed officers from the Met’s CO18 Aviation branch stopped him near Heathrow’s Terminal 5 on suspicion of being an unlicensed cabbie.

They were stunned to find he had a BA pass. He was arrested after it emerged he was on bail accused of assault – and was allegedly living at a different address to one he gave the court.

Last night his airport job was branded “outrageous”.

One source told The Sun: “It’s bitterly ironic – perhaps he got the job because he was pining for airports.”

Mohammidy and his gang – armed with firearms and grenades – hijacked an internal flight over Afghanistan in February 2000.

The pilot landed at Stansted in Essex after being ordered to divert to the UK.

The hijackers threatened to blow up the Boeing 727 and its 173 passengers and crew unless granted political asylum.

After 70 hours they surrendered to police and SAS troops.

The gang’s Old Bailey convictions for hijacking were later quashed amid fury. The outrage increased when they all eventually won the right to stay in the UK.

Mohammidy, who lives with his family in Hounslow, Middx, has spent months employed by a company based in nearby Feltham which has a contract to clean a BA training centre.

Sources insisted his pass did NOT give him airside access.

But it DOES allow him into secure areas.

He appeared in court on Wednesday, but was last night free again – after magistrates in Uxbridge bailed him.

Mohammidy, who is accused of beating up his former landlord, declared: “I have nothing to say.” An insider told how he was nicked after he was seen repeatedly circling Terminal 5.

The source said: “He had a British Airways pass on him. It was discovered he was in breach of bail and he was arrested. Then it emerged he was one of the Stansted hijackers.

“There’s got to be something seriously wrong with a country that lets a hijacker work at an airport. It’s shocking.”

BA confirmed: “We have been helping police with their inquiries into a man who is employed by a cleaning contractor.”

Sir Andrew Green, chairman of the organisation Migrationwatch, said: “This is another example of how the asylum system has been abused.

“It is sorely testing the patience of the British public.”
