Trav Le Bleu Posted 6 July 2008 Posted 6 July 2008 Now, if the thread had given some clue to the fact that it's about whisky and not stupid word games I'd have replied sooner. But never fear, your resident Whisky conny sewer is here! Tormore is a Speyside malt, which puts it amongst the sweeter and more accessible malts (no long burning throats, acidic noses or mouthfuls of peat), which probably makes it a good place to start sampling malt whiskies. Tormore is soft, sweet and well-rounded, finishing with a smokey, dry note. Never tried it myself (there's well over 600 types of whiskies on the market and getting through them all would be an exercise in dipsomania!), but it sounds nice As for your JD days - JD is a completely different drink. It's bourbon for starters (made from rye, not barley) and made in a completely different country where the water will be different (which is the main factor to the differing tastes of whiskies). Many are the people who have tried Bells as their first sample of whisky, only to conclude that whisky tastes like cat-pee. There is a good reason for this and it is this; Bells tastes like cat-pee. It's a nasty, cheap, blended (blended whiskies are mixes of the worst malts that distillaries wouldn't dream of selling as single malts) whisky. There are some decent blends, but they are the priciers ones. As in all things, you get what you pay for. However, in this case, you didn't pay for it - you might as well try some!
