Father Ted Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 Nothing could be further from the truth in fact. This is a European player for one. Second, he has played for Greece and Olympiakos, and is tried and tested in European football. Third, he speaks English. Fourth, there is a long track record of Greek players coming to England and doing very well indeed, you dont have to look beyond our club to find that. Fifth, he is undervalued currently, meaning the risk is exremely low. Sixth, he has had trials as a youngster at Lazio, Marsielle and Birmingham city and had serious interest. Seventh, he is a loyal player and dedicated individual, I can say that as I know people who know him. He signed a three year deal with OFI when he could have walked to Olympiakos on a free because he loves his hometown club and wanted to ensure they got a good fee for him. Eighth, he is a goalkeeper not an attacking player, and in my opinion goalkeeping abilities transfer more readily to different leagues that outfield play and paces. Ninth, this guy is young, honest, keen and ambitious, everything we need in new players coming to the club if we are going to escape this mire. Tenth, he needs a break. The Olympiakos thing has stalled leaving him a little stranded, OFI have already replaced him as they understand he future is upwards and away from them, the timing is perfect. Eleventh, ever heard of Chalkias and Portsmouth? Twelve, he's so good that Antonios Nikopolidis is picked ahead of him for Greece...

Ever heard of Paul Henderson and the relegation of Leicester City 13th. Ever heard of Paul Henderson shipping 2 goals against a team beaten by Notts County

Apart from one slip Fulop was outstanding, and both of them are clearly better goalies than Henderson 12. So 6 games offsets the flapping and mistakes he has committed in just about every other game? Not for me it doesn't. You don't suddenly become a reasonable goalie at 32. Elvis probably played well in a couple of games as did Trevor Benjamin, would you rate them higher than Paul Dickov?
lookwhaticando Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 Eleventh, ever heard of Chalkias and Portsmouth?Twelve, he's so good that Antonios Nikopolidis is picked ahead of him for Greece... We should sign Antonios Clooney instead of his national squad deputy. Not only is he the better of the two Greeks, he might also help fill the stadium with women and draw huge crowds of women to signing sessions. Antonios.

And what I was trying to suggest was that for the majority of the season it was Fulop and Alnwick in goal. 12. I only really remember him having a really bad game for us last season against QPR and Southampton in the cup. He had more better games than worse. Also, they say that a goalie reaches their peak at 30 and Hendo is only 2 years off that. No, I wouldn't rate them higher than Paul Dickov but what is the necessity in that quote??
Mack Posted 17 July 2008 Author Posted 17 July 2008 Eleventh, ever heard of Chalkias and Portsmouth?Twelve, he's so good that Antonios Nikopolidis is picked ahead of him for Greece... Nikopolidis was an outstanding keeper, he would keep most current English keepers out of a team, keepers from the Premier league let alone league one. Ever heard of Nikos Michopoulos or Dimitrios Konstantopoulos? Sifakis is a youngster with huge talent and will end up taking the Greek mantle as 1st choice for the national team.

lavrentis Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 Nikopolidis, what a legend. All goalkeepers should aspire to be like him, the hair is great too.
