I can't even get a mini-pupillage, so don't ask me.

Meanwhile, the resident "can't do owt wrong for trying, sitting on a first and would have to balls up seriously to end up with a 2:1" has had three offers for a training contract.

I think there lies your answer. :(

A couple of my friends have done it. Three actually. I think.

Ask them to get me a place please

I have 6 assessment days coming up, I'd rather i just had an offer instead of humiliating presentations and rejections

Anyone gone through this process (solicitor) or even worse trying/tried to find a bar pupillage?

Yeah, went through it a few years ago.

Where you applying?

Benji, I've been through it all and have experienced all the rejections that come with it! I'm now doing my TC so if you've got any questions or want some advice give me a PM.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a Training contract.

It's a 2 year contract with a firm of solicitors which you are required to complete in order to become a qualified solicitor in England and Wales.
