Actually it was him stating as Mayor and chairman of the MPA he had no confidence in him caused him to resign.

Unfortunately they were the sort of mistakes that you do not want the top policeman in London to be making.

Well, the Prime Minister, the Home Secretary and the previous Mayor did nothing to remove this particular bumbling buffoon from office. Nothing to do with his publicly vocal support for ID cards and 90 day detention I'm sure.

Apart from the de Menezes episode (which will probably be whitewashed in the current inquest), Sir Ian Blair also did little to tackle the racism and corruption in the upper levels of the Met.

For those reasons, I won't be sorry to see him leave.
