de Vries takes inspiration

Mark de Vries says that Leicester can take a leaf out of Wolves' book when they come up against Wigan at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday.

Glenn Hoddle's side pulled off something of a shock when they overturned Ipswich 2-0 at Molineux on Monday evening, throwing open the race for the two automatic promotion spots once again.

Wigan and Sunderland are the other two sides in pursuit of a place in the top-flight - with Leicester still to play both sides before the end of the campaign.

De Vries said: "I watched the game on Monday night and if I am honest I didn't think that Wolves would win, but they proved me wrong.

"If you look at the table now then you would say that our game on Saturday is going to be a win for Wigan. But I have seen how we are playing and we have certainly never been played off the park since I arrived here - and I don't see it happening now. We have got too much quality in our side to make it an easy game for Wigan.

"We are definitely in a false position as far as the league table is concerned. We have drawn 19 games so far, and it would have only taken six of them to be wins to put us in a decent position."

The big Dutch striker got off the mark in City's 3-1 win over Millwall, and now hopes that his luck will change in front of goal.

He added: "I don't think you can play up front for that long and not score a goal! It was a relief and hopefully it will be the first of many for Leicester."

De Vries also praised strike partner David Connolly, who has bagged four goals in his last five games.

He said: "I saw a lot of David in Holland and he is just one of those players who can score a goal out of nothing. It's good to work with him. I am just trying as hard as I can to help him.

"He is an out and out goalscorer and I am just trying to get in a position to help him break through the last line. My job is to get him past defenders.

"Of course I aim to take any chances that come my way, but I am of firm belief that it doesn't matter who scores the goals in the team. Maybe I am not selfish enough to be an out and out goalscorer, but I know that if I work hard enough the goals will come."

I don't think any team can be in a false position at this stage of the season. We've drawn too many games because we haven't got a cutting edge in front of goal, and de Vries is contributing to that at the moment. ;)

i actually think de vries should take inspiration from peter crouch everyone was writing him off (including myself) but he's shown that it doesn't matter how pretty the football is its the end results that count (i.e. goals). i'm willing to give de vries a bit more chance because i have faith in levein and his judgement and there must be something in de vries' game that would persuade CL to bring him down here.

I may get slated for this but I think De Fries will come good. Despite the fact he looks clumsy a lot of the time and isn't the greatest header of the ball (to say the least), apart from Collymore when he has the ball at his feet he looks the most accomplished and skillful forward we've had in years.

No offence, but that comment made me laugh

To be fair, he has displayed some moments of promise. Charlton and Reading away in the FA Cup.

Thought it might get that kind of reaction lol

Seriously though, for a big man his skill in getting past players is v good. At one point during the Millwall game he had his back to goal with three defenders around him and through a sublime piece of skill got past them all.
