Formal dinner quandry

I am off to a formal dinner tonight.

Uniformed personnel are wearing Mess Dress, and Civvies are wearing either Tux & Bow tie or Lounge suits.

I have a dark suit which I wear for work and a dress shirt and bow tie - can these be worn as a combo?

Or should I stick to just a neck tie with the suit??

I'd go with a neck tie as a normal suit can look naff with a bow tie.

Also, it's more fashionable to wear normal neck ties to formal functions these days.
