Wesolowski fired up to play his part for City

by Paul Jones

If there was an award for guts and determination, Leicester City midfielder James Wesolowski would be near the top of the rankings.

The Australian under-21 international's spirit is being thoroughly tested once again as he recovers from a third major injury.

Having suffered the agony of two broken legs, Wesolowski is now fighting back from a third fracture, this time a serious ankle injury sustained in October while he was out on loan at Cheltenham Town.

It is a fight that the City man is determined to win.

"I'm about five or six weeks away," he said. "I've just got rid of the crutches."

By that time, Wesolowski is hopeful that he will be fit enough to put his name back in the frame at a crucial stage of the campaign.

"I definitely want to be part of it," he said. "I'm pretty fired up to get out there and help Leicester consolidate their place at the top."

Recalling the incident that saw him sidelined, Wesolowski initially thought he had not suffered a serious injury.

"I went into a tackle in a game against Tranmere," he said.

"At the time, the doctors and physios were saying that it was bruising so I was feeling a bit better about it.

"But, when I found out that the ankle was broken, that was deflating."

The break required surgery, but Wesolowski has had good support from people around him and he is starting to see light at the end of this latest tunnel.

His enthusiasm is no doubt helped by the fact that his team-mates sit at the top of League One heading into the busy Christmas and New Year programme.

"Everyone is bubbly at the moment - even the physios!" he said

"But that is what you get around the club when everyone is buzzing. The lads are going out there and doing the business.

"We've got a really good thing going at the moment. If we can keep that up over Christmas, then it is a matter of kicking on from January."
