BoneDog Posted 8 January 2009 Posted 8 January 2009 A manager who has never managed in the Football League?! Looks like a relegation battle for Derby this season then. I can see him being as out of his depth as Paul Ince was at Blackburn to be honest, and I'm not convinced that Derby would have offered hm the job if his surname wasn't 'Clough.'Don't get me wrong I wish him well, but I can see this appointment doing more harm to his long-term career than good. I'm from Burton so am wounded he left, but he has been very loyal for 10 years. I think he will do a good job (which will upset me as it's the sheep). He has done the right thing in getting alot of experience at management, unlike alot of big names who go stright in at championship/premier level. Ince had a bit of experience at Macclesfield and MK but only a couple of years. These big name players have got to learn the trade before jumping in at a big club. That's why I think he'll do a good job. Plus, he has got to have learned something from his old man which will help him as Clough was the greatest ever. Should of had the England job. The only manager who comes close to Brian Clough is Martin who can work wonders. Some people say Nigel Clough is too soft, but I have heard he don't take no shit in private so I don't think there's any problems with players takin the piss.

I wonder why people would think him soft? Because he puts his family first, has a calm demeanour and shows he has some values? Sounds just the opposite to me. Sounds like a bloke who can make his own choices and see them through under pressure.

But I'm sure his players know otherwise. Martin O'Neill is similar I think. He looks like an average joe but anyone who knows him will learn that he is not to be p*ssed around with. Even Brian Clough said that he never thought Nigel would make the step up from Burton. Although that could of been a bit of the old psychology to give him a kick up the arse.
