J.Lisemore Posted 6 January 2009 Posted 6 January 2009 bit of a gamble by Derby but has been doing a good job for Burton Albion this season...lets just hope it doesnt pay off
Sparky Posted 6 January 2009 Posted 6 January 2009 Didnt think he would leave Burton the position they are in . Derby fans will just moan if he aint as good as his dad
Libertine Posted 6 January 2009 Posted 6 January 2009 Wow, that's a surprise. Wish him well, even if it is Derby.
GLC Posted 6 January 2009 Posted 6 January 2009 bit of a gamble by Derby but has been doing a good job for Burton Albion this season...lets just hope it doesnt pay off we all hate the derby we all hate the derby nah nah nah nah hey nah nah nah nah
Finchy Posted 6 January 2009 Posted 6 January 2009 It's their turn to go down and I think it may just happen now , although a lot of teams looking dodgy at the bottom of that league
Guest Bilo Posted 6 January 2009 Posted 6 January 2009 A manager who has never managed in the Football League?! Looks like a relegation battle for Derby this season then. I can see him being as out of his depth as Paul Ince was at Blackburn to be honest, and I'm not convinced that Derby would have offered hm the job if his surname wasn't 'Clough.' Don't get me wrong I wish him well, but I can see this appointment doing more harm to his long-term career than good.
GLC Posted 6 January 2009 Posted 6 January 2009 stupid derby, a man with no football league experience, relegation shouldnt be a problem then
lildave3 Posted 6 January 2009 Posted 6 January 2009 I don't see this as too bad an appointment tbh. Don't see what all the fuss about never managing in the football league is.
Tommeh Posted 6 January 2009 Posted 6 January 2009 I don't see this as too bad an appointment tbh.Don't see what all the fuss about never managing in the football league is. Exactly, Craig Levein did a decent Job for us.
Fosse Boy Posted 6 January 2009 Posted 6 January 2009 Sure, Clough's a good manager at non-league level and it was only a matter of time before he took a job with a league club, but I just feel that the pressure of this job given what his dad achieved with them will surely break him and may dent his chances in future of achieving any kind of success in the English game. I'm fairly certain that Clough Jr. would never be foolhardy enough to ever take on the mantle at F*rest as the weight of expectation from the fans would be far too much even in comparison to the miracles that will no doubt be expected of him now at Gay Pride Park, so perhaps he saw choosing the Derby job as a lighter option? Either way, the events of the past few days have set things up nicely for the Sheep v F*rest Cup tie!
Brainy Posted 6 January 2009 Posted 6 January 2009 Good to see them appointing a lower league manager, although i'm sure it won't be long until they give him the boot after a poor start to next season.
Unabomber Posted 6 January 2009 Posted 6 January 2009 Makes a nice change from appointing the likes of Dowie etc
Legend_in_blue Posted 6 January 2009 Posted 6 January 2009 Nigel Clough or Billy Davies. I know who I'd pick.
Corky Posted 6 January 2009 Posted 6 January 2009 Well it's a choice that is a gamble, but he seems like a decent bloke. I would wish him good luck but I don't think it's appropriate.
Floating Fox Posted 6 January 2009 Posted 6 January 2009 Hope Burton carry on with their good run, will probably end up going to watch them again soon. He's a legend there.
Fosse Boy Posted 6 January 2009 Posted 6 January 2009 Hope Burton carry on with their good run, will probably end up going to watch them again soon. He's a legend there. They've appointed Roy McFarland as their new boss, who Brian Clough said was the best signing he ever made for Derby. Talk about the wheel going full circle!
Suffolk_fox Posted 6 January 2009 Posted 6 January 2009 Shame Peter Taylor isn't Forest Manager by the time the FA Cup match rolls around - that would have been something - Clough v Peter Taylor....
Tilley Posted 7 January 2009 Posted 7 January 2009 Huge gamble. But fair play to the bloke, he's done well with Burton. As someone else said, I doubt anyone else sitting top of the Conference with a surname other than Clough would have got a look in though.
RedHux Posted 7 January 2009 Posted 7 January 2009 Big big gamble by the woolly chaps up the road. He's a Clough, seems to know a thing or two and would be cheap. On the down side he's inexperienced at this level, has a struggling side, has no money a large squad and no reserve team to keep the back up players fit. Good luck to him (after Feb anyway)
purpleronnie Posted 7 January 2009 Posted 7 January 2009 Kinda pissed off about this I have a soft spot for burton been a few times and its only 8 miles from my house. To see the team that when I was younger were quite a poor side riding high and maybe becoming a league club amazes me and to see the manager leave now makes me wonder if it will be downhill for them from now on. And I liked clough even met him once but now hes at derby I want to dislike him and hope he doesnt have success but I don't.

I agree, but let's see how he does. He's been loyal to Burton over the years and now has his chance. It's such a shame that I can't really wish him to do fantastically well.
