Thracian Posted 15 February 2009 Posted 15 February 2009 And how lucky was Cox that his shot (that was excellently saved by Martin) fell straight back at his feet. Jammy b****** The keeper might have known that Cox'd come again.
STUHILL Posted 15 February 2009 Posted 15 February 2009 do what Wolves did, scout effectively... just dont expect to get that sort of quality immediately - find the right young player, play him, nurture him, develop him - consider the longer-term picture.... Arent we doing that with King, Gradel, Chambers, Morrison, Fryatt, Mattock? Pretty sure Wolves had that idea but long-term picture?! Didnt work so well for Wolves, he got snapped up by Bolton at aged 20!

Didnt work so well for Wolves, he got snapped up by Bolton at aged 20! and they sold him for a decent sum of money which meant they could afford to go out to scout/sign the next one. I'm not saying that we can always keep the talent we discover and develop, but at least we can play them for a couple or three seasons, hopefully progress by having them playing well, and then make financial gain from letting them go to bigger clubs. We can't do this of course with loanees.. Isn't football development about finding young talent, coaching them effectively and progressing both the player and a club as a result. See recent comments made by Platini. I tend to concur with his vision..

See recent comments made by Platini. I tend to concur with his vision.. Absolutely! Sure we've had this argument before tho. It's all about balance. We have the right balance of experienced, young and loanees at our club right now. Next year in the Championship we may need a slightly different balance as I think we can actually attract and sign better players to a championship club than as a league 1 club. We are doing exactly what you said, with the likes of King, Fryatt, Mattock, Morrison, Chambers. Isn't that enough for you?! We can't have a whole team of talented youngsters, it just doesn't happen like that. I'm sure next year we will have to re-address our objectives and playing staff, just like every other team in the country.
Ultra Posted 16 February 2009 Posted 16 February 2009 There's no leadership on the field at the moment, especially with Tunchev absent. Oakley and Howard are sinking towards the depths of last season and the younger players are looking a little vulnerable, especially in defence. Much as Pearson is unwilling to rest players, he really doesn't have any alternatives. Bring Brown and Powell in for the Hartlepool game will restore some stability to the side.
