The Reverend Posted 22 March 2009 Posted 22 March 2009 It make you worry for your own health. These super fit athletes are having heart attacks, then what happens when us normal people exercise and push ourselves? I know normal peoples exercise is nowhere near as strenuous - but surely its all relative. Athletes can push themselves because their bodies are used to it, normal people can too, surely the end result should be the same, just the threshold is in a different place.

In this case I don't know the in's and out's yet but with a few in the past they have been due to undetected heart problems. Unfortunately they are near to impossible to detect without screening and hit at anytime. A lot of younger people will not be screened for heart disease/problems as it is very rare and when a problem does occur it is usually fatal or very serious. Only the way is to get yourself screened. I have also heard of cases of people suffering from cardiac arrest due to over doing but in an athlete it is very surprising if they had no heart problems. In this case they think he suffered a heart attack but an eye witness said he went into an awkward tackle and then came out and collapsed. Very sad anyway.
Fosse Boy Posted 22 March 2009 Posted 22 March 2009 I wondered why they were showing highlights instead of a live game tonight. RIP, sad times.
dandannieldanok Posted 23 March 2009 Posted 23 March 2009 Didn't Watene play for Wakefield too!?! Awful news, and if I'm right then two player deaths for the same club which is just terrible. RIP.

Father Ted Posted 23 March 2009 Posted 23 March 2009 R.I.P. Unbelievable how Adam Watene - who also played for Wakefield died and I also read that another player from Wakefield had a heart scare during a knee op.
