Foxes_Trust Posted 4 May 2005 Posted 4 May 2005 We would like to encourage as many posters on here as possible to go, particularly the lippy ones (Katy et all) Difficult questions- we have a few lined up & a team to ask them. We doubt Paul Mace will be there, isn't this a fan consultation meeting? More on this later

Foxes_Trust Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 Like the 'difficult questions' your team asked at the groundshare meeting? lapdogs! 103316 We had already met & had answered far more questions than those raised during the open meeting, but some of the information we were (and still are) unable to release. Also we had consulted our members & the majority were in favour of the arrangement. Come on Tuesday night, discuss a variety of topics & then judge who asks the difficult questions
Foxes_Trust Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 Will the Trust be taking questions too, as I'd like to know where they were when the Fans Charter was ripped up? 103317 We had our AGM back in February & you could have asked us anything you wanted then, we doubt the club would appreciate a Trust Q & A on Tuesday. Hopefully you will come on Tuesday & observe the Trust's approach to the One Year Kit Deal & the Fans Charter. Have you read the last two Fox fanzines at all?

Have you read the last two Fox fanzines at all? 103394 Firstly, I'm not a member, so going to your AGM would be pretty pointless. Secondly, I don't buy the Fox. Thirdly, observing your "approach to the One Year Kit Deal & the Fans Charter" on Tuesday night seems a bit like closing the stable doors after the horse has bolted. You're supposed to be the voice of the fans on the board, look what good it's done. It's quite clearly obvious the other board members have no disregard for their "customers".

A trust that had any real involvement in the running the club would mean that a Q & A with Tim was not necessary. I'm sure you'll ask loads of searching questions about things that the club have already done.
davieG Posted 5 May 2005 Author Posted 5 May 2005 I think some perspective is needed here, even if the Trust was a 'full' member of the board they would still only have one vote. If people actually joined so that the Trust could say for example we represent 50/60/70 % of the fans I'm sure the club would listen more. Don't blame the Trust they are all volunteers doing their best against a club that has the 'Mace' infleunce and a fan base that is a) mostly not interested, B) interested but can't be arsed, c) can't even agree amongst themselves what is best for the club in terms of Kit, groundshare and whether Connolly is shit or hot. If people are not prepared to get their fingers out of their arses then they should keep their opinions to themselves. PS this not aim at Lisa as I don't know her circumstances but it pisses me off when people blame the messenger (the Trust) because believe me with the membership we have compared to the size of the club that's all they can realistically expect to be. Some peoples expectations of the Trust are so beyond reality I suspect they believe we're going to win the Champions League in a couple of years.

Look at your membership numbers and you'll find that most city fans don't want the trust claiming to represent them. I actually went to the stadium share meeting but it was a waste of time as the club took no notice of the views at the meeting (mainly because only 20 people turned up).

I have always maintained that being a fan, and running a business even if it is a football club are two different things. Successful football clubs are run by succesful entrpreneurs, not by fans, and certainly not by accountants. I have been a member of the Fans Forum, and I quite enjoyed that, it was a great mix of different supporters, with different needs from the club. Some suggestions have even been acted on as a direct result of the Forum. However, when the Trust formed, and it decided to take on the role of champion of the fans, I raised concerns then that one board member could not fairly represent the views of x amount of supporters. I have asked what would happen when a situation arose that divided the fans, whose side would you take, and I was told "the majority" unless the FT board itself felt this was "wrong", thus upsetting most of their members. Then there is the conflict between fans and business; at the end of the day the Club will take on board hard cash over the views of the "customers" any day. The FT have made a huge deal over their involvement at board level, and yet when important issues arise, such as the groundshare, or the new kit cycle, it seems like they are the last to know. To me it seems like the club are laughing at the Trust, or at the fans. Probably both. For a club of this size, we should have a bigger Trust, but isn't the Trust a way for the fans to help contribute monies to the football club? As much as we'd all like a say in what happens with that cash, for a club of this size we cannot afford to have a fan's rep, with one poxy vote. Especially a fan's rep whose members are more concerned with the fact there are typos in the programme, or that the toilets haven't been painted.

You could have come to our AGM which also had a Craig Levein Q & A session & learnt more of what we do. Right to answer specifics from above 1) 10 Trusts now actually run football clubs, Stockport are the latest to take control, Rushden & Diamonds will be next. Seeing some of the cock ups some owners have made of running clubs (or bleeding them dry for their own gain) why can't fans do a better job? Fans can be accountants & entrpreneurs, we have 3 qualified accountants on the FT board - don't know what you think a typical fan does? 2) Far more changes have been made since the Trust appeared than before. Yes we fully support the Fans Forum, but many attending aren't vocal enough. Having observed your style at the Ground Share meeting, please consider volunteering to take part again next year - we need more straight talkers there. Are you coming on Tuesday night to the open meeting? We need vocal support to change the Forum back into consultation rather than a briefing format which is what has happened with Paul Mace appearing instead of Tim Davies. 3) Our communication at the club is at various levels. The LCFC board only meet 4 times per year, of greater importance is regular dialogue with Tim Davies & we also raise numerous issues via Peter Jones. When we have major issues, we consult our membership (which does take time to compile). That consultation in the ground sharing case came out with members in favour by a small majority. We also recently consulted about a one year kit cycle, with our members being massively opposed to it & hence our harder line with the club over this. 4) Ground share - only 3 people at each club knew until the weekend before it was announced, so in this particular case we don't feel let down by the club in no pre-consultation - as it proved we all had plenty of time to give our reaction 5) One Year Kit - we are disgusted at this one. Kit related stuff is supposed to be discussed at the Fans Forum, that is the agreed vehicle in the Fans Charter & the club have failed to follow this 2 years in succession, its not good enough. We have already presented the results of our members survey to the club in early April, they can clearly read the strength of feeling & we expect the club will get a battering on Tuesday night over it 6) Re going against members/fans views, the FT board is privy to a great deal of confidential information, like a monthly financial statement (which all shareholders receive). We have been in the position where we have an agreed course of action in place which we can't explain due to it being based on information we can't publicise. All Trust's can face this issue & we know its difficult for fans to understand As an example several years ago at another club, a fans favorite player was sold which fans were up in arms about. The Trust couldn't reveal that the player was in fact carrying a career threatening injury and therefore to raise cash through a sale was the correct decision. If the Trust had revealed the info, the deal would have been off & damaged the clubs position. 7) Clubs making hard cash decisions - so can Trust's. We have £20k in the bank ready to invest in further shares in the club. We won't do it until we are convinced consultation from all areas of the club will take place in future. 8) Yes one of the aims is to raise money, hence the £20k, but no individual shareholder has more than one vote per share. At board level at each board member has one vote, except our observer. That's why its important for us to communicate regularly with all the board, we talk to the LCFC Non-Exec board members after games in the Directors Lounge - they get to know & Trust us and the vast majority we could approach with areas of concern & we do this. So we try to influence thinking, but don't expect to always succeed, we have always known we have to play the long game over many years. However the Trust is more likely to gain fresh ideas, as being a voluntary organisation we see more changes on our board year on year than football clubs do. We really wish some of our greatest critics would join the Trust, stand for election to our board & then work with us to influence change. However every board member has to accept the majority view of the board or members when surveyed, and be prepared not to speak against the majority decision, that can prove difficult for some individuals. and finally, if individual members ask us to raise points in the Forum, we do so, hence typos in the programme etc. In that case we weren't going to raise it, but following several minutes of the club patting itself on the back & looking for praise over the match day programme (yes it is good, but it went on too long) we just hit back with the point a fan had highlighted to us.
