Guest Posted 9 June 2009 Posted 9 June 2009 I know there is the point of don't believe everything you read or hear in the news yadda yadda yadda, but just heard on the news apparently it would have been better off for taxpayers money to be spent helping LDV and companies and to some extent bailing them out thus not causing so many redundancies if any (I'd have thought a certain amount would have jobs cut) than letting all these people jobs go and the taxpayers money being spent on their dole money and benefits. And when we're done bailing out LDV, we can turn our attentions to all the other failing businesses. Sod it, if taxpayers can keep my business afloat, I'm setting up a company!!
Matt Posted 9 June 2009 Author Posted 9 June 2009 And when we're done bailing out LDV, we can turn our attentions to all the other failing businesses. Sod it, if taxpayers can keep my business afloat, I'm setting up a company!! But would you have and originally afford to employ 4000 people in the first place? No matter whether it is 1 or 4000 jobs that go it' bad, If only 1 job went that is sad news but wouldn't cost much on benfits, e.t.c, 4000 jobs going though is costing alot of money. I see your point of "well if they bailed LDV out they would have to bail out every other company in trouble, or the questions would be asked atleast" and I realise there are also some big companies out there with many employees who are in trouble, but here's the choice that I see, Bail out a company with 4000+ employees which is cheaper than spending the money on the benefits for them or waste more money let them go and give them all benefits. A company that needs bailing out with say 20 employees, well the option then would be cheaper to let the company go into administration and the employees get made redundant. My mate who was made redundant, has a baby, has a missus, has a house, Along with his missus' wage he is actually better off living on his benefits than when he was working, what kind of attitude or incentive is there to even bother working in his case? Your all paying for him (And I will when I eventually get a job). It's not a case of well these white british dossers don't want the work but the immigrants, and foreigners do and will work - It's a case of whats the point in working if financially it is better to claim the benefits? (Went of the subject abit with the last paragraph but it just adds to the argument of claiming benefits)
coale39 Posted 9 June 2009 Posted 9 June 2009 They just were not good enough for the marketplace. My dad drives/maintains vans all the time and he hates LDV's. The recession is always going to hit non competitive businesses. If they wanted to stay they should have made their product better, really.

We already have one; it's called the market place, and unfortunately van drivers have decided that they would rather buy elsewhere. As sad as it is to see people losing jobs, why should a company that isn't producing marketable goods be allowed to continue to produce even more products it won't sell? Surely that is even more of a false economy?

Zingari Posted 9 June 2009 Posted 9 June 2009 For a brief moment there I thought i'd died. LD III , LD1V , LDV are dead long live LD IV
Hullfox Posted 9 June 2009 Posted 9 June 2009 Another skilled workforce joins the dole queue Skilled my arse. These people don't make anything, they stick ready assembled ford engines into tin foil shaped like a van. They then spruce it up by sticking old rover radios in the dashboard. To make things entertaining, they arrange for leaks in the air conditioning pipes to drain over the electrics in the cab and fit doors that are as much use as tits on a bloke. Granted, the wheels are nice though.
