Muz Posted 14 October 2009 Posted 14 October 2009 Oh and anyone mentioning Peterborough is talking nonsense, one of THE very best. Same with oldham. This. Oldham last year was quality. All packed into to one row and manic celebrations when Steve scored that header!
lou Posted 14 October 2009 Posted 14 October 2009 The problem is that no-one in the City crowd that day had ever stood in a mass terrace before and the stewarding didn't help. Once the game kicked off, people just stood in gangways as opposed to actually moving to the top. I remember us losing 4-0 on final day with a massive following. Decent atmosphere regardless of the result. All around the ground in fact. One of the few majestic, grand stadiums left. Plenty of us have stood in terracing before... it was over-sold that day! Poorly stewarded too though yes.
CosbehFox Posted 14 October 2009 Posted 14 October 2009 Plenty of us have stood in terracing before... it was over-sold that day! Poorly stewarded too though yes. But the majority hadn't...that was the problem. I got in late and struggled to see the game in the first half yet I had two mates telling me to go towards their side of the terrace. The fact that the Police were rounding people up and delivering them at once to the ground meant too many people at one time. Then when the going got tough and stewarding was required to tell people to move away from the entrances and gangways, they just disappeared. Leeds had no problem with the terrace.
Ultra Posted 15 October 2009 Posted 15 October 2009 The old away ends at Barnsley and Oldham were grim. In winter, fans risked hypothermia by standing on those. One season (88-89?), the league showed a particularly sadistic streak by sending us to both venues in December!
