davieG Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 BBC The number of football-related arrests in England and Wales fell last season, according to Home Office figures. In the 2008/09 campaign, police made a total of 3,752 arrests at domestic and international football matches, a fall of 2% on the season before. On average there was 1.18 arrests per game, and the Home Office say 354 people were arrested for violence. In all, 956 football banning orders were issued during the 2008/09 season, with 37 million people attending games. In the Premier League, champions Manchester United had the most fans arrested - 185 in total. Second was relegated Newcastle United with 144 arrests and third was Everton with 139. Fulham had the fewest fans arrested with just 13. Supporters of League One Leeds United topped the banning order list, with 162, ahead of Championship side Cardiff City (124) and League One outfit Millwall (110). Fans were generally well-behaved abroad - more than 105,000 fans travelled to 49 games in European club competitions last season but only 30 were arrested. "Hooligans once blighted our national game but we now set an example for the rest of the world in how we police football matches," said Home Office minister David Hanson. "I am pleased with the way clubs and police work together but we must also praise fans for realising violence has no place in the modern game. "We are not complacent and will carry on working to ensure this success story continues into the future."
Daggers Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 On average there was 1.18 arrests per game I can see why we need to be treated like cattle - there must be no other way to contain the rampant criminality rife within the matchday experience.
lou Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 Figures would have looked even better if it wasnt for the likes of Singhy and Gazzer dragging us all down with their hooliganism!
Shrenchel Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 I can see why we need to be treated like cattle - there must be no other way to contain the rampant criminality rife within the matchday experience. Even that doesn't tell the full story at all. Home Office quote at the end implies these were all to do with violence and hooliganism but if you look at the statistics (http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/documents/Foo...pdf?view=Binary), only a very small proportion of these arrests were for violent disorder. The majority of them are for 'alcohol offences' (can't remember the last time I saw someone that wasn't a foobtall fan nicked for just bein pissed), 'pitch incursion' (people running on the pitch is hardly a big problem is it, no doubt 90% of them are people who've put a foot over the hoarding in an overexuberant celebration) and 'public order offences' (whatever normal activity they can criminalise to jusify the millions they spend on policing this nonsense.) Leicester had 29 people banned last season but only 6 arrested for violent disorder and 1 for racist chanting. What have these other 22 lads got banned for?! No doubt the 9 arrested for 'pitch incursion' all got slapped with 3 years. What a fooking joke! Two of them are probably those poor buggers who celebrated a bit overzealously at southend. Plod turn into such utter cvnts at the football.
Daggers Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 With the gross arrest rate at 3,752 and the total quoted attendance figure running at 37,000,000: that's a rate of 0.01% of attendees ending in arrest for all charges. When you consider facts like this then the policing at Peterborough last season can be seen for the abject joke it was...and why Hereford were so brilliant.

Peterborough away was something of a nadir for policing, they managed to make South Yorkshire police look friendly and helpful. Watching a bloke get slammed into a wall for the heinous crime of accidentally bumping into a policeman pretty much summed them up.

These are plod bans, separate from the ones the club imposes. I'm sure that list would be as long as a donkey's cock and full of offences that are even more trivial than these.
Daggers Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 Kevin Barclay takes great delight in being a complete cunt, and getting paid for it by the club. He did it on an unpaid basis prior to his appointment.
samjohnson Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 If policing is so damn good at football matches... WHY THE HELL DONT THEY BRING BACK TERRACING!
