davieG Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 Anyone know if it's frozen over? I remember as a young lad, probably around '63 going there when it was frozen so much there was literally thousands of people walking and skating on it. I noticed this morning the canal was frozen over. Police have warned children not to put lives at risk by playing on frozen lakes in Leicestershire. The warning comes after officers had to stop three boys playing on frozen water off Bennion Road in the Beaumont Leys area of Leicester on Monday. Sgt Andrew Smith said: "Every year we hear of tragedies where someone has fallen through ice and drowned. "You can never tell how much weight it can hold and by the time you do, it could be too late." He added that youngsters could also be putting the lives of those who attempt to rescue them at risk.
Uncle Albert Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 Remember falling in there along time ago in the summer, my Mum was livid.

Zingari Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 what with climate change /global warming etc it's highly unlikely to ever freeze over again more likely to be an arid desert with animal skeletons scattered around the place soon
Tabou Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 As a Groby boy myself, I have many fond memories of Groby Pool. Although not dogging. And actually all I can remember is being bitten by a Swan when I was about 4. But yes, it's frozen. Groby Pool remains the Rose amongst what is now a massive thorn of a village. Only 5 days until I move out!
