Leicester's most famous gig venue will be open for a month longer than planned. The Charlotte, in Oxford Street, Leicester, was due to close at the beginning of February, four months after reopening following former boss Andy Wright's departure a year ago.

But current bosses have announced they will now keep it going until Saturday, March 13, when a host of Leicester bands will take part in an all-night closing party.

All three floors of the venue will be open "for the biggest party of 2010", with 12 acts, including The Heroes, Autohype, Free Control, The Kicks and Weekend Schemers, already confirmed to play on the main stage. Other acts, including MegaDub and MadagaSKA, will play in a second room while a third will be opened for acoustic performances.

Tim Sturgess, a member of the group that has managed the venue since its relaunch in October, said: "We were originally going to finish in February to work on a new venue but that is going to take a bit longer to organise, so we'll be running until the last day of our lease.

"We've got loads of bands confirmed for the last night already and we should have a few more by the end of the week.

"It's an all-night party and we're applying for a licence to open until 6am."

Tim's group took over the Charlotte on a short-term lease from owners Deckchair Ltd, who have submitted a planning application to turn the building into flats.

Tickets for the final gig at the Charlotte are £7.50 and are on sale at Rockaboom, in St Martin's Square, or online at: www.2funkytickets.co.uk/site/32.asp?catID=356
