Turtles Head Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 The Mrs and I plan to go travelling later this year. This is the plan, so if anyone sees any holes in it or has any advice, feel free. We intend to leave in either October or November. Any date, whichever has the cheapest flights. Fly out to Brisbane, work our way south over 4-8 weeks, finishing up in Melbourne. Once there, we plan to work for anything from 4-8 months. We'll apply for our working holiday visa at the end of this month. My girlfriend can either work as a nail technician or a waitress. I can work as either a gym instructor or a chef. When we are ready to leave Melbourne, we will fly onto Asia, again, whichever area or date is cheapest. We'll then see Thailand, Malaysia and hopefully Vietnam and Laos. Neither of us have done anything like this, so not too sure on how much money to take. We've both got debts we'd like to clear before we go, credit cards and what not. The aim is to take a minimum of £3000 each, ideally more like £4000. The only flight we will book before we go is the one way flight to Australia. As I said, we hope to work out there, so this will keep us from touching our savings, but realistically we won't actually be saving more money out there. Only decided to go a month ago, and we've got £400 each so far...tempting to book flights already but not sure if we're being naive and overlooking anything!? If anyone has any knowledge on such trips, feel free to share.
Daggers Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 not sure if we're being naive and overlooking anything!? One way flights aren't cheaper more often than not - and without a working Visa you'll not be allowed in. You'll need evidence of support and an onward flight.

It is, but without an onward flight they can argue that you have no intention to leave. To be fair - a travellers' forum will give you better and more up to date information. My brother had to have onward flights in certain Asian countries, a mate was denied access to Cambodia and Thailand for not having them. And I hope you have a fucking magnificent time
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 Australia you should be right But yeah Asia you may need proof that you have a flight booked home and you will most likely need it for travel insurance aswell. In Melbourne you will get plenty of work as a Chef and your missus a waitress very easily and very quickly. Have a good trip you will be arriving in our summer so be prepared for the heat especially north of Brisbane. Have a good trip I'm from Melbourne so if u need any advice just let me know I'm more than help to help if I can.
