So, with 7 rounds to go of Superleague 2010 here's how the tables looking...

Wigan P20 34pts

Warrington P20 30pts

St Helens P20 28pts

Hull FC P20 26pts

Leeds P20 25pts

Huddersfield P20 21pts

Hull KR P20 21pts

Castleford P20 18pts

Bradford P20 17pts

Wakefield P20 16pts

Crusaders P19 14pts

Salford P20 12pts

Harelquins P19 10pts

Catalans P20 6pts

In the last round, Leeds narrowly beat St Helens at home, Wigan hammered Catalans despite having a man sent off, Warrington thrashed Crusaders and Hull narrowly beat Bradford, while Castleford beat Huddersfield 44-18. The next round, while posing some tricky games for top teams (such as Leeds' trip to Hull KR and Hull's game at Wakefield) doesn't threaten to spring any major suprises, with the expectation being that all top 5 clubs will pick up wins.

So who will take the League Leader's shield, and who will go on to triumph in the playoffs? Wigan are obviously favourites for the minor premiership, having a 4 point cushion over Warrington. However, after next week's game at home to Salford they have a tough 3-game run, facing Warrington (h), Hull FC (a) and Leeds (a). I'd expect them to win the first two, but Leeds are in good form at the moment, and have already beaten Wigan at home this season in the Challenge Cup.

So how will things go if the table stays this way? Well, we would have Week 1 playoff ties of

Wigan v Hull-Wigan win

Warrington v St Helens-St Helens win

Leeds v Castleford-Leeds win

Huddersfield v Hull KR-Hull KR win

this would then send us into Week 2 ties of

Hull FC v Leeds-Leeds win

Warrington v Hull KR-Warrington win

Leaving Wigan (as league leaders) to pick between playing Leeds & Warrington at home, with the team not picked to play St Helens. Wigan will, obviously, pick Warrington (no point playing the champions, plus Warrington's record against the 'big 4' is not good).

Week 3 ties are then:

Wigan v Warrington-Wigan Win

St Helens v Leeds

I'm fairly confident of Wigan finishing Warrington off. St Helens v Leeds, is for me, too close to call. Heart says Leeds, but head says Leeds' record at Knowsley Road is quite poor. However, I think the winner of that game will beat Wigan at Old Trafford.

What do you guys think?

N.B. a quick explanation of the playoff system

Top 8 teams qualify

Week 1:

Game 1: 1st v 4th, Game 2: 2nd v 3rd, (winners go straight to week 3, losers go to week 2)

Game 3: 5th v 8th, Game 4: 6th v 7th (winners go to week 2, losers go out)

Week 2: (winners go to week 3, losers go out)

Game 5: Loser Game 1 v Winner Game 3

Game 6: Loser Game 2 v Winner Game 4

Week 3: The team that finished Higher on the table gets to pick their opponents for this round. Winners go to Grand Final, losers go out.

Game 7: Winner Game 1 (usually) v chosen opposition

Game 8: Winner Game 2 (usually) v remaining team

GRAND FINAL

Winner Game 7 v Winner Game 8. Winners are SL champions.

Not really stayed in touch with syoopaleeeeeeg since they started that daft licensing thing. Shame as I do enjoy a bit of League now and then.

Mate's from 'Uddersfield so I support them.

Mum's side of the family are quite big Saints fans, so look out for their results, not too happy about Wigan being top, just hoping Saints don't finish 4th, to avoid Wigan, as it looks inevitable they'll come top, they're having a great season, fair play to them.

Leeds fan here. Been up to see them a few times and saw England trounce South Africa in the world cup about a million years ago.

We're a bit patchy this year but hopefully will do that "coming into form at the right time" thing.

I have never heard a saints fan give our boys credit before, makes a nice change. Its about time we got back to were we belong as well. I'd love a wigan v saints grand final

I'm not a massive fan, so don't feel the full rivalry, pretty sure my Uncle, who's been a huge fan for years, would kill me if he heard me saying Wigan were playing well lol

And yes, a Saints v Wigan final would be brilliant, but I think we'll have to agree to disagree on who we'd want to win it! :giggle:
