You'd have to pay the remainder of your contract out or sometimes at a subsidised rate. Your best off getting a new sim from them and using an old or buying a new phone and carrying on with the contract rather than handing your cash over to them for nothing. As for house insurance it's not worth it. Not only is it fraud and you'd have to report a burglary to the feds, it will bump your premiums up all for the sake of a new phone.

We had it covered that as it was purchased under our home address if it was lost or stolen it was covered, as he doesn't have house insurance I think the best bet is to get o2 to send another simcard and buy a cheap phone to wait until upgrade/see contract out.
LCFC-ARAB Posted 25 July 2010 Author Posted 25 July 2010 Yeah thats what i did just got a new sim card sent out and use and old phone only a year and 1 month to go!

Another option is to go into somewhere like orange and get a bigger contract with them, my brother went in and they bought him out of his old contract, he came home with £200 in his hand and a new blackberry. I'll try and get details in a min

Unit Posted 25 July 2010 Posted 25 July 2010 They actually do that?? I might have to look into that! Yeah just asked my brother, he went into phones4u and basically told them he wanted a phone on one of their tariffs, he had to prove his old one still existed with bank statements and bills and that sort of stuff, then they gave him enough money - in cash - to pay for the rest of his contract, so whilst your o2 one would carry on being billed to you, you'll have the money to pay for it each month providing you've not spent the cash. It could also work in your advantage so that you could still use the o2 sim - maybe your fosseboys sim and then have a personal number from the new contract.

Phones4u only do this if you have 3 or less months left I'm sure, I spoke to them about it once and was told that.

Ah, their policy might've changed if people found you could take advantage of it, I know when my brother did it he had about £200 so obviously had ages left on his contract but that was about a year and a half ago.

There's usually a quote in your contract saying you can get out of it if the terms change (or something along those lines). A lot of people got out of Orange contracts through this last year when they changed the charges for something. O2 are lowering the data cap for contracts so that might be a possibility, although you'd have to look at your contract and see what it says.
