The Doctor Posted 7 November 2010 Posted 7 November 2010 I wanted Sousa out more than most on here (I had my suspicions from the Boro game onwards), and I'm thrilled to bits that we've got Sven. But you can't help but feel that Sousa never had the backing of the owners in the same way Sven did. His one major signing, Waghorn, is widely acknowledged not really to have been his signing. Other than that he was not really backed in the transfer market. Perhaps Sousa was unwilling to use the loan market, but given the level of investment since Sven's arrival, I don't think that it's particularly wild to speculate that Sven has been better backed than Sousa would ever hope to have been. Plus, let's look at Sousa's fixtures - in the first 9 games we played QPR, Burnley, Coventry, Norwich and Cardiff - all challenging at the top of the table. Sousa did shit. To get 5 points from those games was unacceptable, and he had to go. We couldn't score for shit and we defended awfully. But Sven's first 5 games have been Barnsley, Preston, Hull (all properly, properly Shit teams), Leeds (who we beat under Sousa anyway) and Swansea (best team I've seen us play this season). As I said at the start, I'm delighted Sven's started well, but let's not get carried away. Very few teams would have taken less than 7 points from the run of fixtures we've just had. So for us to get 10 is good, not spectacular. and you accused me of being a buzzkill in the george taft thread.
