Realism blog?

When will people realise that football isn't about realism for large sections of the fan base ?

It's about hope over expectation , (and fair play to those fans).

What's the point in not letting your passions blind your judgement every now and then ?

What harm does it do ?

Leave "realistic expectations" to things in life that really matter , not football results and promotion prospects

You do as you like Zingari, but to me the route towards any successful promotion campaign needs thinking out properly. It's not about dreams it's about details and about making fewer mistakes in every phase than others chasing the same goal.

It's about getting a real team together for a start - not midway through the season or in dribs and drabs, but well before the season starts so that the fine-tuning is finished before the campaing starts. I first mentioned this in August and said we'd made the worst possible preparation.

It's about making as few changes as necessary and every one of them constructive rather than having to introduce new players to a line-up before they even know everyone's name.

It's about gettng your recruiting right - not so you have a training ground full of conformists but so you have experts in evey position and adequate cover if any one of them goes lame.

It's about having coaching staff who can work effectively with every phase of football within a chosen philosophy that allows you to impose your will on every single situation and puts fear into the opposition's thinking rather than forcing you to compromise. The Muslims make it an art form and I've every admiration for them. lol

Within that philosophical framework it's about attending to every possible detail from the taking of throw-ins to the practised choreography of a whole range of free-kicks involving a variety of ploys.

It is about ensuring you have enough potential goals on the pitch from the off. Two 20-goals a season strikers, two double-figure scorers in midfield, goalscring wide men and occasional contributors from the back. Target: 78 goals minimum and ideally over 80.

It's about coaches working on their specialitiesto make sure all sections of the team know how to function best and then combining that within a team that attacks and defends as one from the fist day ofthe season until he last.

And that's just the start...but you get the picture.

It really isn't about wishing and hoping because when you're surrounded by ambitious, efficient professionals, that way has no chance. You have to be clinical and you have to be ruthless. Not in patches but week in, week out. We don't even have an established team or pattern of play.

I agree with you wholeheartedly that to obtain success is all about these things within the structure of the club , management , players etc . But my point was about how the" fans" dealt with , aspirations and disappointment .

If some fans wish to be overly optimistic , shouldn't we let them ?

If fans wish to be unduly pessimistic , wheres the problem ?

With regard to the "fans" , why should they be made to feel they should stick to being "realistic" ?

it's all about how people want to have fun from their chosen team , not constantly being told how to think , We have enough of that throughout the rest of the week
