Leicester City have reportedly had a bid to sign Dundee midfielder Scott Robertson rejected.

Sky Sports reported that City approached the Scottish club with a £50,000 offer but Dundee, who were relegated from the Scottish Premier League last season, are keen to keep hold of the 20-year-old.

Robertson spent the first half of last season on loan at Third Division outfit Peterhead.

He returned to make his Dundee debut in January and went on to make a further nine league appearances for the club, mostly as a substitute.

A move for the youngster by City boss Craig Levein would come as a surprise.

The Foxes appear to be well covered in midfield with Danny Tiatto, Stephen Hughes, Jordan Stewart, Gareth Williams, Jason Wilcox, Joey Gudjonsson and new signings Moma Sylla and Patrick Kisnorbo all operating there.

Levein's moves in the transfer market are constrained by a tight budget - he had to let seven players go at the end of last season - and it is understood that he believes other areas of the squad need more attention.

He has been linked with a move for Celtic defender Ulrik Laursen and the 29-year-old last week moved to have his contract at Parkhead paid up.

City have also been monitoring events at Southampton to assess the chances of signing Darren Kenton, who enjoyed a loan spell at the Walkers Stadium at the end of last season.

Levein will also looking be to strengthen his attack.

City had Aston Villa striker Stefan Moore on loan last season, but the 21-year-old has now joined QPR.

* City's Championship fixtures for the new season are released tomorrow and will be published in the Mercury.
