O,Neill Sacked

Ok like most other people on this forum I would be ecstatic if the god that is MON was to return to the KP but like many others I am not daring to believe it!

But it also got me thinking. Youngy made a point on saturday that the only thing a manager can be certain of (unless you are Ferguson) is the sack. If MON comes back could any of us bear the thought of the owners bursting the myth and sacking him if it doesnt go right quickly enough?

I was not one of those calling for Svens head although I must admit to being disappointed with the season so far and even left the ground early on Saturday once it was clear we were to be tonked 3 0. I feel the jury was well and truly out but still have a sneaking suspicion that what this club needs desperately is consistency of purpose. I have supported this club through thin and thinner since 1962 but have been both bemused and frustrated by our recent tendency to constantly change the manager and think it would all come good. I have a sneaking suspicion that whilst it may have taken a more than just this season we would evenyually have gone up with Sven and been stronger for the fact that we had a stable set up.

That being said we now possibly have a crack at getting the great one back but if I were MON I would hope to be given a cast iron guarantee of at least three seasons in charge no matter what happened so that he can build his club, his squad. The owners need to understand that if they bring MON back the city will go wild and the gates and megastore will go mad but that they have atiger by the tail. Mon is probably actually bigger than this club at the moment ( in the fans eyes at least) so they need to structure a very special deal to get him here and to ensure it doesnt end in tears.

In my world I can see MON coming back, building over the next 10 seasons and me actually see us lifting the premiership and european cup but then I wake up and see Bllly Davies getting us to the playoffs this year before being sacked just as the transfer window closes and us starting the merry go round all over again!

What if he got us relegated 2 seasons in a row?

Alan Young is wrong (and perhaps not for the first time.. lol).

O'Neill has gone through decades of managing professional football clubs without EVER being sacked.

Wycombe - left for Norwich

Norwich - quit over dispute with chairman

Leicester - left for Celtic

Celtic - left for family reasons

Villa - see Norwich

In all honesty, if he did come back and for whatever reason it didn't work out, he'd probably just walk away and jump before being pushed.

He's not bigger than the club - no manager or player ever is.

But the owners, like their distant predecessors from the last century, would be left in no doubt of his affections among the fanbase. They've seen and heard the reaction this week to the sacking of a charismatic manager. They would be advised NEVER to pick a fight with MON. No amount of money pumped into the club could compensate for the loss of goodwill that would cause.

No one is bigger than the club and there are no cast iron guarantees of anything...all he could ask for was a three year contract, given this scenario

What may happen, should MON join, is that the fans begin to get on his back if he don't turn things round quickly enough. If this happened, MON would probably walk anyway.

If the level of expectation was great under Sven, it would be even greater under MON and don't forget that many of the fans who see City now have probably not watched a single game with MON in charge.

In the words of Kevin Keegan though, I'd 'love it' if MON was our next manager.

Martin O'Neil as been sacked by Leicester City, as a result of poor performances since his signing in late October. The two time Leicester City manager has failed to win any of the 9 games, that he was manager. Leicester now reside 2nd of bottom, and only one goal off east-midlands rivals, Nottingham Forest, who recently sacked Steve Cotterill.
