stockyfox Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 As the different names emerge as possible candidates, I havechecked the managerial records of some of the contenders: M=Matches; W=Won; D=Drawn; L=Lost; %=% Won Dave Jones......... M=732....W=301......D= 190......L= 241......%= 41.12 Billy Davies..........M=419....W= 170 .....D=116......L= 133.......%= 40.57 Iain Dowie...........M=295.....W= 115.....D= 74.......L= 106.......%= 38.98 Kevin Keegan.......M=527.....W 266.......D= 112....L= 149.......%= 50.47 By comparison, Sven's overall record is superior to all four: ............................M=905.....W= 468.....D= 242.....L= 195........%= 51.71 His record at Leicester however, is less favourable ..................................M=55.........W= 24.......D= 14.......L= 17.........%= 43.64 The fortunes of Stockport County have ebbed and flowed in the lower divisions during the 40+years I have lived here but they did enjoy two successful seasons when Dave Jones was manager from 1995 to 1997. He also brought some much needed stability to the Club but his quiet yet assured style of management attracted Clubs in the higher divisions and it was with little or no surprise but certainly with much disappointment that he went to Southampton. His record at Stockport was: ................................M=131.......W= 63.......D= 36.......L= 32..........% 48.09 Since then, I have always taken note of what he has done, firstly at Southampton, then Wolves and then Cardiff. He comes over to me as a really genuine person. He doesn't indulge in histrionics but he knows what he wants and goes about his job in a very professional manner.
nuttytimmy Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 Interesting reading - notable that Eriksson's record here was better than the average of Davies, Dowie and Keegan over their careers. Indeed, Eriksson's record at Leicester is better than that of a certain Mr O'Neill...
cc_star Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 Adding in the context of the amount of backing received, Davies & Jones stand up very well to Sven who's been bankrolled where ever he's been. I think Dave Jones has been a nearly man for too long, Cardiff had plenty of resources & some top class players & he didn't get them up, Davies did brilliantly at Preston getting them in the playoffs twice, got Derby up & then finally got to grips with Forest, got them up & got them into the playoffs twice despite not having the backing of other clubs near the top. WTH is Dowie doing there, and where's Hughes

Dabizas Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 Records such as this do not tell it all, any manager good or bad would have a better record with a good team with money than without!

thybluefox Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 I still think Lee Clark and Sven as DoF would have been win win for all.
cc_star Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 I still think Lee Clark and Sven as DoF would have been win win for all. The negotiations of Sven leaving seemed to include him having a role at the club & between Svenn & the owners him leaving was considered the best solution
