Guest Col city fan Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 The reality IMO is that we have had a really great chance to secure the play offs this season. The average ability of most of the Championship teams is pretty much of a muchness. Below Southampton who look like they are gonna do it now, any one of many teams has been in with a shout. All we needed was a decent sort of run .. Just a few games won on the bounce would have put us right back up there. Unless you still want to rely on the 'time to gel' argument? (is this really still being used) our position suggests that we are simply one of those pretty average championship teams. And God knows why anyone would think we are going to 'get it right' next season? It's very likely we will be up against the likes of Wolves, Wigan, maybe QPR? And Charlton coming up from League 1... If anything, it's probable that the general standard next season will be better than this. No, we've no Divine right to success.. But we've fooked up this season good and proper so far. How many of you would have taken 12th at this stage of the season? Very few? Just go back through the League Prediction Threads at the start of the season and have a look.
class 1 Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 i don't even like the premier league. totally agree £60 at qpr & chelsea without travel & a burger , last on match of the shitty day fvck the prem
Ely fox Posted 23 March 2012 Posted 23 March 2012 Definetely not good enough for the premier league lets face it .... we would probably finish bottom of the league if we were in it this season .... I reckon the owners will do one soon as they probably felt that leicester would be promoted in 2 seasons of heavily financially backing the team and its just not happened. I can't see them sticking around and continually throwing money at managers. I hope they don't lose interest obviously but have a feeling that they will severe their ties with the club at the end of this season ... Doom and gloom merchant i am
blueharmie Posted 23 March 2012 Posted 23 March 2012 I too think the owners will do a runner. Lcfc is not good business. Can't see us getting promoted anytime soon

Doom and gloom merchant i am Depends on whether or not they are just prepared to write off a whole load of money. There certainly wouldn't be many if any buyers for us with all the debt we have and the loan of so many million at 8% the owners are reported to have lent us. They may feel fed up but just one season in four in the premier league and the business would be quite profitable. At the moment the business is a basket case and only survives in its current format because we have wealthy owners so no one would buy it off them in its current state.
smudgerfox Posted 23 March 2012 Author Posted 23 March 2012 Yeh but you're ignoring me really aren't you. For the third time. We've spent (approximately) twice as much as everyone else in this league. THAT is why we should be doing better THIS season. I'm not ignoring you. Your delusion (quoted above) is based on two false assumptions (as I have tried to illustrate). 1 Spending money is a guarantee of success. It isn't (thankfully). Comparing our spending with other clubs takes no account of where each club starts from. If you have a high grade squad to start with you don't need to spend as much. Other cubs might be better at seeking out free transfes and other bargains. (My guess is that clubs like Reading are far superior in this field) 2 Money spent in one season leads to obvious and immediate improvement. (it doesn't, see Beckford). We have spent all our substantial money in the past 18 months and arguably it takes longer than that to really show up in results. The overall point is this. We're all disappointed with the season. But some are reacting by hurling abuse at a hard-working manager and at practically every player in a bizarre rotation (see Bamba/Mills/St Ledger/Morgan fluctuations in popularity). When asked why they want another set of wholesale changes they say because the club hasn't met their expectations. I believe,as do many others, that their expectations are based on a set of false assumptions (revealed in this thread) which make their tirades of abuse wholly unjustified.
davieG Posted 23 March 2012 Posted 23 March 2012 If you look at the squad below it's easy to see why we're under achieving based on the perceived quality of our squad. 3 have been here less than 3 months 8 have been here less than 10 months 1 has been here less than a 15 months 2 have been here less than 3 years 1 has been here less than 4 years Then we have limited contributions by King & Howard 4 years , Kennedy in effect new this season and Schlupp, Pantsil, Fernandes and Johnson all new this season. And it's been a similar story for the last few years. Schmeichel – June 2011 Peltier – June 2011 Mills – July 2011 Morgan – Jan 2012 St Ledger – July 2011 Bamba – Jan 2011 Konchesky – July 2011 Beckford – Aug 2011 Nugent –July 2011 Danns- June 2011 Marshall – Jan 2012 Drinkwater - Jan 2012 Wellens – July 2009 Dyer – July 2008 Gallagher – Aug 2009 Howard – Jan - 2008 Schlupp – Academy 2011 King – Academy 2008 Kennedy – June 2010 Pantsil – June 2012 Fernandes – Jun 2012 Johnson – Jun 2012
