Well I've spent all day trying to clean up my PC which seems to be awash with spyware (there are some real bastards in the world). I've used up to 8 different packages deleted 14000 files from my PC (took 4.5 hours) Several scans for virus & spyware taking a couple of hours.

So to act as a counter balance I've spent the time in between watching the 120 goals DVD, Oh the memories - Davie Gibson, Stringfellow, Frankie Worthington, Glover, Lineker, Heskey, Lennon, Muzzy, Walshie, Parker, Collymore, Claridge it goes on and on Cup Finals, Play Offs - :D:D Wow - Weller :(

And I've still got crap on my PC.

I'd suggest a complete reformat of your PC - but backup all your files that you need first. ;)

Regular cleanup after a re-format is advised! 14000 files isnt good! Every weeks i get the latest ad-aware updates and do a scan. I also have a virus scan schedulled and i dont have many problems with my computer! I also use a program called Crap Cleaner. that removes all temp internet files/history etc and basically removes stuff you dont need. you also get a choice of what you want the program to remove.

Did you send the hijackthis log to that site?

Yes, thanks for the link; I've sent a copy to the site and they've provided some advice, hence the above work - I've since posted a number of logs as requested by them but had no reply.

As for regular clean ups I have norton antivirus and firewall, CCleaner, WinCleaner, Spybot, Ad-aware all of which I run regularly and up until now I have had no problems, this has hit me out of the blue and seems to have got in via Internet Explorer which I only use for image searches e.g birthdays, funnies etc as it seems to load quicker than firefox.

The 14000 files seems to be mostly associated with all the music my wife listens to and reviews via a couple of internet sites.

I don't suppose you wanted to or needed to know all that but hey you did ask and it is kind of therapeutic. ;)

Well hope it all gets fixed soon! I hate it when you get annoying stuff like that! Had it at least once a week with my old computer, no matter what defences i had. But now iv started to use Firefox i am trouble free!

Well I got my reply and spent another four hours going through the debugging process, it would appear that I had over 600 infections e.g Trogans etc. I'm not sure how this happened with all the protection I have, my PC also had a full health check only a month ago.

Seems pretty good this morning one or to gliches. The downside is I've lost all my favourites on IE and Firefox, it's taken me the best part of 5 years to build them up. Oh well mustn't let the bastards grind me down.

Thanks for your help Hitash those Castle Cops are a saviour.

No problem! Its a good site to go to when you have problems because they always seem to know the answer!
