The Year Of The Fox

Loughborough Half Marathon Sponsorship

Recommended Posts

Me and another lad off here have decided to run the Loughborough Half Marathon in March. We are looking to raise money for Macmillan. I did do a half marathon in 2004 and finished it in 1hour 44mins. Frankly, this time I'll be happy just to finish it. Training starts tomorrow after the football!

Both of our families have been affected by cancer this year so thought it'd be a worthwhile cause.

If you want to donate I've set up a justgiving page (i think I've done it properly)

Many thanks and Happy New Year, lets hope it'll be the Year of the Fox!

If the mods fancy making this a sticky that'd be great. Cheers

Currently raised £120 so far, £40 on justgiving, and £80 on a form I've printed off.

Any money is very welcome. If people knew my lifestyle on here they'd probably be a bit more impressed! I've not ran in over a year until Wednesday, drink and smoke like a fish/chimney, so its no mean feat what I'm trying to achieve!lol

I'm running this bad boy too - bows the training going?

As I said, not ran in over a year til Wednesday. We're following a training program on the lough marathon website. First run i managed 2.9 mile in 22 mins, which after working out my speed from that, worked out about 7.9 mph. The speed I ran the sheffield one a few years back was 7.5 mph. Id have no chance of keeping that speed up for 13 mile as I am at the minute though. Ran another 3 mile yesterday with my mate. 3 mile in 27 mins, but I was going at my mates pace. Felt a hell of a lot more comfortable.

Just been butting and bobbing since the Leics Marathon in Oct really, just keeping a bit of a base.

Did parkrun yesterday in 21:53 so that's a start and proper training starts today with the weights after work.

I've never been into weights really. I'm a skinny sod so could bulk up after a decent session, wake up the next day and I'll have lost it! I always was built for running rather than strength. The only weights I think could be beneficial would be leg ones. My quads have only just recovered from wednesdays run

Me too I definately have a runners frame (an ectomorph to use its proper term and make me look clever).

Weights doesn't necessarily mean bulk. I use weight training to keep my bones and joints strong so that they can handle the rigours of the marathons.

Also, as JUST running day after day would bore the nuts off me, I definately prefer the actual racing rather than training, even if the races are realistically only against myself.

Anyone one here ran a marathon (or half) since technology became such that you get given a running chip before the race? Do you need pockets to put it in? If not where does it go? I can guess what some replies will be..

Usually they come with plastic ties to put onto your running shoe laces however with Loughborough it's slightly different, the chip will be attached to the back of your number which you simply pin to your running top (your number must be visible throughout the whole race). They will rip the chip off at the end.

EDIT:

Or you can take what the standard FT answer will be and shove it up your rusty sheriffs star.

Good luck on Sunday, I got a bit of tendinitis at Silverstone that hasn't cleared up yet so expecting to be slow, got a new strategy though that might help to compensate. I've not set a PB yet this year at any distance :(

The organisers of this are going to assess the course tonight at 5pm and update the website between 5 and 6pm.

That said, my mate lives in L'bro and she says its horrendous so it's likely to be called off.

Fantastic, will serve well as a warm up race for the Edinburgh Marathon in May!! lol

Seriously though, glad they've managed to get it back on - would have been a shame if it was cancelled and must not be easy to re-organise.
