Samu Posted 7 April 2013 Posted 7 April 2013 I know it's probably not for everyone, but I am very excited that the baseball season is back! Early days I know but already the Washington Nationals look promising. With two of the future superstars of the game in Harper and Strasburg they will be difficult to beat. The LA Dodgers should be pretty explosive too with their lineup, but as is always the case in baseball, pitchers win matches. If Kershaw and Greinke can find enough support from Beckett, Billingsley and Ryu they should be pretty potent. In terms of pitching, the Giants will be amongst the best in the league again. In the AL, the Angels lineup is probably the best in the league, but there are questions as to whether they have enough starting pitchers beyond Weaver and CJ Wilson. As a huge Red Sox fan, I'm actually cautiously optimistic. The great thing about the Red Sox this year is the young players they have coming through. I don't expect the Red Sox to win the World Series this year, but they can hopefully start building an excellent team for the coming years. With players like Jackie Bradley Jr and Will Middlebrooks already coming through, there are exciting times ahead. A lot will depend on whether they can get Lester and Buchholz back to their best but early signs are encouraging. I do fear for the Yankees though (although I'm secretly happy). Without Jeter, Granderson, A-Rod and Teixeira their lineup looks incredibly weak right now and their team does seem to be ageing fast. I also fear massively for Houston as I think their transition over to the AL will not be easy. They are in a tough, tough division and don't seem to have any players of real quality. Early season predictions: World Series Winners - Washington Nationals AL MVP - Albert Pujols NL MVP - Bryce Harper AL Cy Young - Felix Hernandez NL Cy Young - Clayton Kershaw
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 8 April 2013 Posted 8 April 2013 We just beat the Nats 2-1 in a home series. 15 nil in the first game as well. Think my reds have the team to go all the way this year, the loss of Luddy already is an issue and puts pressure on Heisley to step up. Also the trade of Stubbs to bring in a lead off hitter in Choo is already reaping dividends. To be 4-2 after playing Angels and Nats is a very good start, bring on the Cards tomorrow.
Samu Posted 8 April 2013 Author Posted 8 April 2013 I think the NL is stronger than it has been in quite some time. There are a lot of teams who could compete. I expect the Reds, Giants, Nationals, Dodgers and Braves to all be competing at the end of the season
Jordan Posted 13 April 2013 Posted 13 April 2013 I'm glad to see the Yanks settle down a bit after a shaky start. It's no secret that they have been slaughtered by injuries and age but their lineup (esp. Youkilis ) has been hitting the hide off the ball lately. The AL East is going to be brutal this year, but I have a feeling that Toronto will be a big disappointment despite their high-profile acquisitions. I wouldn't say the NL is that much stronger than the AL, if it is at all. The AL West is a strong division, even with the Angels sputtering at the start (again). We just beat the Nats 2-1 in a home series. Shin-Soo Choo is, in my opinion, one of the most underrated players of his time.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 8 May 2013 Posted 8 May 2013 Just booked tickets to see Reds in a 10 game home stretch.....i'm seeing 9 of them heading to see the colts on one of the game days in the NFL. Also booked tickets to see Yankees and Mets play home games. Seeing 11 possibley more in 19 days can't bloody wait! We have been struggling a bit with Cueto, Ludwick and Hanigan all on the DL list but we have unearthed Cingriani. Choo has been amazing 2 homers including a walk off too give us a much needed win.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 29 May 2013 Posted 29 May 2013 Mets yankees and angels dodgers series both going on at the moment, been some great baseball recently.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 3 July 2013 Posted 3 July 2013 Homer Bailey just got a No-Hitter to go with his other no hitter last September, was still pitching 97mph in the last innings as well. Go Reds!
Samu Posted 28 October 2013 Author Posted 28 October 2013 Which way is it going to go? I feel like tonight's game is the key to the series. Come on Lester!
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 29 October 2013 Posted 29 October 2013 Dislike both teams think who ever wins this game will win the series.....might be stating the obvious.
Beliall Posted 29 October 2013 Posted 29 October 2013 good win for the sox and the first time the cards have lost back to back since august i think. going to make an effort to stay awake and watch what might be the last game on wednesday night/thursday morning
Beliall Posted 29 October 2013 Posted 29 October 2013 hell yeah, might have to settle for game 6 though
Jordan Posted 29 October 2013 Posted 29 October 2013 Which way is it going to go? I feel like tonight's game is the key to the series. Come on Lester!Lester was cash money last night.Lackey can dramatically change his Sawx legacy tomorrow night. Sigh...
Samu Posted 31 October 2013 Author Posted 31 October 2013 Such a brilliant performance from the likes of Lackey, Lester, Papi etc. My fantasy football team of 'Jon Lester City' was definitely a good choice after this season!
Guest MattP Posted 31 October 2013 Posted 31 October 2013 Great victory and lovely to see an ending at Fenway, a lot of people have waited a long time for that. Would have liked a game seven for a baseball fan point of view but can't have everything. John Farrell is a genius, could be the new Tony La Russa.
Beliall Posted 31 October 2013 Posted 31 October 2013 I managed to watch 7 innings. lackey did well and the sox really jumped on wacha. really enjoyed my first season as a baseball fan. looking forward to april.
Jordan Posted 31 October 2013 Posted 31 October 2013 Where would Boston be with out Big Papi? And it wasn't too long ago that many--including me--said his career looked like it was ending in a hurry.Anyway, well done on winning the World Series again, you pricks.
Samu Posted 31 October 2013 Author Posted 31 October 2013 Jordan - I'd be interested to hear what you think about the Yankees at the moment. Admittedly you had a lot of injuries this season, but the Yankees team was the poorest team I've seen in some time. Apart from Cano, there really wasn't much else going on in the lineup. With players like Jeter, A-Rod, Ichiro coming towards the end of their careers, do you think the Yankees should try and invest in youth? Their strategy this season seemed to be to pick up lots of veterans past their prime (Hafner, Overbay, Vernon Wells etc). What do you make of their chances next season?
