Can't have been the London Road PO. It was open as usual. It must have been the parcel office Cambell street (?) just around the corner from the station.

I'm catching the 9am to St Pancras on Monday so can everyone make sure they take their belonings with them if they are on it before me. :D

Security alert shuts rail station

Train services have been disrupted after a security alert at Leicester station on Friday.

The station, the neighbouring post office and a number of local shops were sealed off after a suspect package was found on a train.

It is reported an unclaimed rucksack was found on the 0910 BST Leicester to Birmingham Central Trains service.

Armed police and bomb disposal experts were called in, but the station was reopened shortly before midday.

'Massive inconvenience'

A controlled explosion of the bag, which was later found to contain clothing, was carried out.

Platform one remained closed for a time after the station reopened.

Ch Insp Steve Boulton, of the Central area, said: "We would ask people to be careful where they leave their belongings, particularly at the present time.

"Security alerts such as this cause massive inconvenience to members of the public and to local businesses, not to mention the demands they place on police resources."
