What's Panj Pani?

It is a local community radio station funded by the NHS trust to awaise awareness on mental health and other issues set up by and run by an indian group. Citizen's Eye and DNO are being allowed internet air time to present shows based around social issues affecting vulnerable people including those with mental problems.

Does that answer your question.?

Most of the shows are in Punjabi or some other Indian language. The editor of Citizens Eye does a Jazz programme once or twice a week and DNO offer the opportunity to the homeless sector to receive training for media including radio, photography and film-making. It is backed by some big organisations including the Media Trust and Radio Leicester.

How can a radio station be funded by the NHS? That's strange.

It does, I can't understand Punjabi though so I'll struggle to get involved in the debate. Do yuo sit there listening when it's in a different language?

They use space that belongs to the Towers. May be wrong about the funding.

And no I don't listen when it is in Punjabi. The ones who set it up are Indian so tailor the audience accordingly. Time slots are hired out to others as long as they keep to certain rules (no swearing no avertising drugs or alcohol) and tailor programmes around social issues related to health as in mental health.

Not a lover of Jazz so don't even listen to the Jazz Shambles show.

It is only on the Internet so far. It costs 2 or 3k for a RSL lisence for a month plus there is very little airwave space available in Leicester. The next slot available is hoped for January next year.

We have a four hour slot at the moment which we could expand. We have plans for a Junior DNO slot run by young people and a womans hour.

We were toying with the name Womans Monthly but that may not go down too well. :)

I may be doing a spot soon. I keep being pressured to sit in the hot seat and operate the control panel.
