WhispyWizard Posted 3 May 2014 Posted 3 May 2014 Perhaps I'm being a bit of a cynic, but putting your hand in your pocket for £45k when you've just spent £45 million on a plane is hardly going to put them in the running for Philanthropist of the Year. Fantastic effort from the dad and his mates though, that really is absolutely incredible and I really hope it works out for them. The club didn't haveto give him any more than the 23k they agreed, although they may as well have rounded it up to £50k Glad they can goto America now, very well deserved!
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 3 May 2014 Posted 3 May 2014 I wrote a long post to explain further but I decided I couldn't be arsed, if you read my post it's obvious I'm not complaining; I just don't think it's quite as remarkable a gesture as people are saying. I'm sure it was as far as Richard and Ellis were concerned
DennisNedry Posted 3 May 2014 Posted 3 May 2014 Can see where ttfn is coming from. Vichai is worth approximately £950,000,000, so £45k is the equivalent of 5p to the average Leicester fan. However of course they didn't need to give anything and the donation will mean a lot to Ellis and his dad and takes them to the total they need, so it is a great gesture so well done to the Thais. They really are fantastic owners.

Frankly it would have been a bit heartless and terrible PR if they hadn't done anything but this money is what the fans failed to raise and will make a world of difference to the campaign. The really nice touch here is a dad cycling 2000+ miles to help his son, not a billionaire donating a week's bank interest. Obviously they're not competing interests but I think that one pales into insignificance compared to the other.
