It isn't about a coup or a big name (which is debatable with Martin anyway). It is about finding the right fit with what we have and what we might bring in.

He will either have to bring in virtually a while new first team or spend the summer training the players into playing his style. So he will either be frustrated that he cannot do the former and the players cannot do the latter.

Strikes me, yet again, of a club trying to look effective and not being.

I tend to agree. When Enzo took over he spent the pre-season drilling the team into his style of play, but he was dealing with ex Premiership players with good technical ability - Vardy, KDH, Winks, Ricardo, Vestergaard, Praet, Iheanacho as well as bringing in Hermanson, Mavadidi, Fatawu and Doyle who all complemented the system. Martin will be working with a completely different bunch of professionals who may not have the technical ability to play the style he wishes and therefore he'll need to bring in numerous players to compliment his system of play. We all know that promises made at board level regarding the transfer kitty available are rarely adhered to.

  2. This has to be one of the lowest points in the club's history. However, I'm not sure what people are expecting him to say in an interview.

Yeah I'm scraping the barrel coming here, I know the club is on a downward spiral and I'm not sure I can change things and so on.

Yes, it's spin and his past history of success doesn't inspire me, but come on, let's judge him on his words when the action starts.

  3. I'd have loved to have known what questions he was asked at his interview and his answers.

First Question Russell, may I call you Russell? Jon and I know fvck all about running a football club and even less about what makes a successful manager, tell us why you'll be successful here. Remember anything you say we'll accept as the truth.

Can only assume Rudders wants to fantasise sucking on Pinder’s titties.

Whose to say it's a fantasy - it might be in the contract. That's why it's taking so long - can't agree if it's just the one or both he can have delight with.

  5. I'm not a fan of possession based football and there were many games under Enzo's leadership that bored me. However, it was successful for that season. Why, because Enzo had enough quality players to make the system effective. Enter Russell Martin - same doctrine with far less quality available, even with a good transfer window, high technically gifted footballers aren't going to join a L1 club. So I think we'll see the same philosophy he's adopted at every other club he's managed, yet within the first 6 weeks frustration creeps in because the players can't apply his philosophy and it all goes pear shaped with us sitting mid table, angry fans and players who don't know what they are supposed to be doing.

  6. Like any manager who comes to Leicester I'm open to giving him a chance - but in all honesty this has to be one of the least inspiring appointments (if true) in our history. Trouble is, it appears Top and Rudderless are never accountable for their incompetence. I will, however, hold my hands up and say I was wrong, should some miracle occur and Martin turns out to be decent.

  7. It's bad enough that they are trying to persuade Martin to be manager, but I bet he's been tempted by silly wages and a promise of a squad rebuild. If he's gullible enough to know these promises are unlikely to be met, then more the fool him. Or it could be that he sees it as another good pay day. Martin is likely to be appointed with insufficient funds to rebuild the squad and we're left with a set of players incapable of playing possession based football adequately. Mid table mediocracy awaits.

  8. Trouble is Top likes someone who talks the talk and is impressed and obsessed with this possession based football. Both Marti and RM will come across as very convincing in an interview because they are smart talkers. However, we need someone who can walk the walk and for me, out of the realistic candidates available, that has to be Challinor.

  9. Top and Rudderless seem hell bent on alienating the fanbase. I can't think how either of them see this as an appointment that will bring the club and fans closer together. They are either thick or deliberately on the wind up.

  10. What is it about RM that makes him an obvious choice for the chuckle brothers? Apart from a play off win against Leeds he's done FA. They've seen first hand how a decent team dismantles his style of play, 9 - 1 over the two games under Enzo. His last outing was a disaster, yet those sat in their ivory towers seemed hypnotised by his gift of the gab.

Whoever comes in will have to play a variant of possession football because most teams will sit back against us. We will have more possession in virtually all the games we play—it's just a matter of finding a manager who can play possession football effectively.

I'm not 100% sure about this. I thought we would dominate possession last season in most games, but we didn't really dominate anyone all season (apart from the odd half against a few teams) and teams soon realised we were weak defensively and were prepared to give it a go. Depending on our squad next season, we may not be in a position to dominate games.

Think this might go towards paying some of £70m we owe off. I admire your optimism, but freebies are freebies for a reason. I understand we are still a relatively attractive club for L1, but I'm fearful that we start the same way as Rangers did under RM and with the fragile mentality of our players we are facing another long season.

Marti was absolutely awful he has no clear way of playing football. No style of play no tactics no plan a or b 😂 our players would have played RM Ball which would have suited a lot of them. The Southampton players loved him as well. I know he got sacked there in the prem but let’s face it how many managers get there teams promoted to the prem and get sacked!

What's RM's plan b? To throw his own players under the bus and blame them when things go wrong like he did at Southampton - I bet they really felt supported by his comments.

If RM was our manager last season we ain’t in league one this season either.

Maybe you're right, but we don't know do we. That's why Rangers got rid - they were heading in one direction only. Perhaps that would have been the same with us under RM.

If you are looking to appoint a manager, you surely look beyond someone who is on a downward spiral, don't you? Just because he tries to play Pepball isn't a reason to hire him.
