Hmmmm...definite case of the benefit of the doubt going to the batter there. That looked clean enough to me.

Good showing from the bowlers here.

'Keir Starmer's a Gooner' is ok, I think?
Think it depends on what definition of "gooner" is being used.

Only just turned it on and can’t believe how green the pitch is
Little bit unusual, it's a green pitch but not actually offering much for the bowlers, they're having to be disciplined in their line and length.

I've seen far, far fewer flats being flown from houses and cars so far this world Cup. In fact, I saw my first car this morning, that had a St Georges Cross fluttering in the breeze as it went past.
This applies to houses too. In previous world cups, there have been plenty showing their colours hanging from upstairs window sills and so on.
I hope it isn't a consequence of folk being reluctant to fly the flag after all the negative spin that's been placed on it in recent times.
I think a lot of people have put flags out recently in spite of any spin.
My own thoughts is it's quite a bit because of simple apathy towards this particular tournament based on how corrupt both FIFA and the hosts have been shown to be. (That might not be much different to the past couple of iterations of the WC, but it's certainly more public this time.)

Thought he was lucky to escape a red, very poor tackle from behind.
That's my thinking too.
Ref didn't have the cojones to deal with the fallout of sending him off.

Very changed England XI then.

The SpaceX bubble continues to grow.
Still, I guess what it does is make the conditions very clear. Either it fulfills its deadlines and gets humanity to the Moon and beyond in short order, or it doesn't and everyone involved loses practically everything. No middle ground.

Is the UK genuinely prepared for a potential nuclear attack?..
No, and neither is anywhere else. That is the whole point of such weapons.
Their entire value lies in their deterrent. The moment one is actually used and is attributable, then it becomes worthless, because that is inevitably the first move in a game that is very short, very brutal and ends with everyone losing.

Yeah, I just saw this, feels like Russia really starting to test the boundaries to the rest of Europe the past few weeks. Getting a bit scary.
The MoD appear to believe it an isolated incident, but yes, the timing is not great at all.

Would certainly be a pay rise compared to my current circumstances.

I love your posts. I would understand them better if they were written in Mandarin I think.
Then clearly I need to be clearer, and the tip is appreciated.
Carns is a good politician who speaks sense in a lot of ways.
He underestimates natural threats compared to human ones (usual for a MoD post).
This could well become a bigger problem than the ones he says are big problems.
Think that's about it.

Agreed. Lets get rid all of the people to save the human race.
Or when you've cleared away that strawman misanthrope before anyone lights a match, perhaps our elected officials might be persuaded to look at all present threats to human life and act accordingly, rather than inordinately (key word there) prioritising directly human-based ones (or even looking at those that will make the human-based ones much more likely).
That way, hopefully far fewer people - and life in general - have to perish.

Its much easier to effect energy policy while alive than the alternative IMO.
Yes, and that cuts both ways.
The natural world is better at killing than we are (mostly).

Al Carns is another that speaks a lot of sense.
They ought to put him into the government in some capacity....
Just unfortunate that he apparently doesn't see that while security apparently supercedes environmental welfare on energy policy, disregarding the latter will cause critical resource shortages that will directly affect the former anyway.

He's never wanted to protect the country Wymse. He's a self serving bellend that will say anything to make money.
It's a truly remarkable piece of deception that folks like him all over the world have managed to convince so many others that they have the interests of a lot of people at heart, rather than a very narrow wedge of a very single demographic.

I feel like in America because most of their food and produce is so bad, that you actually get some of the best stuff in the world, because there's such a push back against it from a small minority. Same with beer over there, their macro lager is abysmal, but their independent scene is probs the best in the world.
You have to work very hard at it because the majority of stuff is atrocious, but the top 10% of stuff is some of the best in the world.
Same with a lot of other goods and services over there.
If you can pay a premium for the top 10%, it's world class. The other 90% is gutter quality.

Yes, you told chatgpt to put Russell Martin in a funny outfit. You're hilarious.
So were the five hundred people that did it before you.
It's going to be the new fish puns isn't it? And yeah, someone's going to post one in response to this because that's peak humour too.
And I swear every time you make one of these the cost of replacing the RAM in my machine is going up a few pence.
Particularly when used for ridiculous and cheap attempts at political gotchas.
See far too many of them around these days.

Its even stupider than that, with a national ID there would be no need for these private companies to hold any information of significance on you to be able to log on other than you have a government ID that permits you to use that website. Its amazing really how we are all willing to give away our private information to all and sundry but at the same time don't wish to have a national id that would hold no more information on us than the government already hold.
... because big corpos good and big government bad, apparently.
Not sure what the distinction is in terms of power level and ability to abuse it, personally.

And while all of this is going on and the Russians are pouring lives and resources into their utter folly in Ukraine, the Chinese are, yet again, either aghast or pissing themselves laughing at being handed the keys to the future kingdom with next to no armed effort at all.
(Even though their own economy is hardly doing great things right now.)

The below says that they’ve basically agreed to stop fighting for 60 days whilst they discuss all the things they were discussing before the Americans and Israelis attacked. As per usual with the USA - no plan behind hope. There were some sliding doors moments in the first week or two but no one thought erdogan wouldn’t kick off about arming the Kurds to insurge in nw Iran ? That was their big idea to destabilise ………..
Vance has described the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the US and Iran as "about a page and a half" and a "very general" document.
so this could be one long stall whilst they chat a lot for a few months and the mid terms get done but more likely trump realises that he doesn’t have the political will to take on the Iranian mullahs and the timing of the mid terms will also see what govt emerges is Israel.
Could well be right, in that case here's hoping both the current US and Israeli administrations get taken to the cleaners at their respective ballot boxes.

Yeah, from that angle and after another replay or two it's more conclusive.
Good effort by Rew, though. could do with getting at least one or two more before the close.
