Since 2016 we are 18th on net spend of the current Premier League teams. No team anywhere near our net spend has won the league or FA Cup. If Rudkin is thought to be the main man for transfers, I can’t see how he can be criticised regarding the actual transfer fees. Wages/contracts are another question.

Why is everybody so concerned about friendly results. They are only played to improve fitness and to try out formations. The results/performances don’t matter which is why I have never watched one. I am concerned about this season due to the playing squad not due to a few friendly results.

Only Brentford and Forest do not have 40 points of the teams likely to stay up. Given that we are likely to be given a deduction, we would need to build a squad that is better than one of those two to have a chance of staying up. Given our financial restrictions that is likely to be very difficult. A respectable relegation may be the best we can hope for.

Leeds have still got a really good chance. If they beat Southampton they only need one Ipswich loss because of their goal difference.

The main benefit of this promotion is that we will end up where we started rather than being in the Championship with a deduction and a depleted squad (although that could still happen the following year.) Although it sounds negative, due to finances, deductions and a possible transfer ban we are going to have to brace ourselves for not being able to compete next season whatever squad we put together.
