  1. Going down the wormhole of Ingmar Bergman films. Persona - brilliant Fanny and Alexander - possibly even better! Anyone seen any of his other films / got specific recommendations?
  2. Good few destinations here. Think I've been to most of them, though not lived in any. If you don't necessarily have the funds, or inclination to buy a property outright abroad, you could become a travel nomad, certainly throughout the winter months. I'd be wanting to be back in the UK late Spring to September. My need going forward would be to avoid the dark and rain and cold, and visit places of interest that are off the beaten track. By moving locations regularly say every 4 weeks, you'd then not have issues with applying for VISAs etc. It's something I'm investigating once the kids are grown up and have their own lives. I'd say Europe and/ or South and Central America Oct to Nov and Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Philipines) December to May, as you've avoided the rainy season. Obviously, you want to move locations that are close to each other to avoid excessive travel costs and carbon footprint. Flights around the Asian basin region are dirt cheap. A couple of inexpensive but beautiful places folks may never have visited which I would highly recommend - Bariloche on the southern tip of Argentina, in the Patagonia region adjoining the Andes. November and December is their spring. It has several huge lakes that you can tour inexpensively. It's a much better version of the Lakes. You can also ski there, it has an Alpine flavour to it - much like Saltzburg. Look out for the Welsh flags too, where settlers arrived at the turn of the last century, and the reason that Argentina Pumas took up rugby union. Another place that I'd recommend is Koh Lanta in Thailand. From Dec to March you have great weather. It's incredibly cheap, easily navigable if you hire a scooter. Lovely relaxed vibe and friendly people. Also Northern Cyprus. These 3 are all difficult to get to - and that's my modus operandi. The harder places are to get to, the better value you are likely to get, and the less tourists you are likely to encounter, so you're in for a more authentic experience. For Barlioche you'd need to take an internal flight from Buenos Aires (once daily). For Koh Lanta you'd probably need to fly to Krabi from either Bangkok (or another country/ island in Asia) and then take a 2 hour taxi which includes ferry to the island. Alternatively you could fly to the tourist trap of Phuket and take the speedboat across to Lanta. For Northern Cyprus you need to fly to Istanbul or Southern Cyprus and take a transfer. I haven't been on a tour of the lesser known Greek islands but I'm sure it's the same scenario - buggeration to get to either boat from Athens or internal flights, but when you're there and over the "travel pain" it's more than worth it. Some food for travel thought. Hopefully you can give me some other thoughts/ ideas.
  3. For value (and hrs of sunlight) the Turkish side of Cyprus would take some beating.
  4. They won't watch/ enjoy Bait then. A great, original film, from a real talent in Mark Jenkin. He followed it up with an even better film in my opinion, in Enys Men. An authentic Cornish ghost story. I'm genuinely excited about Jenkins' next work. Not sure what he has planned but it will most likely be set in Cornwall again.
  5. Thought there were a few positives but still quite a lot of areas for improvement from last night's performance. Casadei's performance was filled with promise. Sure, he lost the ball about five times in key positions, but his intent was there. He was not only trying to play through balls and forward passes, but he was moving into space and looking for the ball, and looking to attack. Admirable. Ndidi when he came on, was superb. He changed the game. He linked up well with Yunus too. Good to see Vardy score. Hoping he's going to link up well with some of our newer signings. Yunus was okay. Again he tried to attack, like Casedei, and linked up well with his team mates. Rather than attack and beat his man, he tended to run sideways though. Albrighton - decent enough. All the crosses came from the right. Marcel when he came on - started really well and positively, but made a few unforced errors and I think it knocked his confidence a bit. But like Casadei, the attacking intent is there, and he looks promising. Mavididi - don't know what happened last night. He seemed to be in sulk mode throughout. I don't subscribe to the views of others on here that Tranmere double marked him out of the game - not true. He didn't make any runs - forward or back when he lost the ball which was often, and when he did eventually track back and foul a player and concede a free kick I think Maresca had seen enough and rightly hooked him off at HT. He's got to do a lot more than this in future games. Faes - had a poor game. He needs to be a lot braver when it comes to aerial challenges. He needs to win far more of his tackles. He needs to move the ball faster when in possession at the back. He will be exposed when we encounter a decent championship team. Great that we're six wins on the bounce but we need to keep feet firmly on the ground as we're currently far from the finished article.
  6. Re watched Silent Running. Dated visuals, yes. But 50+ years on, it still carries the most powerful message, and one that is becoming increasingly relevant, quite possibly prophetic. It will undoubtedly become the next wave of sentient AI's favourite movie.
  7. After the Fulham debacle, I'd take the final day scenario we now face. Still a chance!
  8. We don't care or they don't? If the latter, it's because a lot of them really don't care. Certainly not a fraction of what we do.
  9. Was concerned how gassed some of our senior players were at the end. Madders' pass for Vardy's goal was world class but after that he was trying too hard, looking for the Hollywood pass when a quicker more direct pass would have been a better option. Vardy needed to have over ruled him for the pen too.
  10. I agree. Come on Saints!
  11. Consensus from my Evertonian friends following last night. 1. You've got plenty of striking options. 2. Our only chance is to target your left back and hit you on set pieces where you look shaky.
  12. Agreed. A simple and sad story beautifully told.
  13. Great atmosphere at KP today, particularly at the end - "we are staying up" chants! Started well but really Wolves should've been out of sight when their goalie decided to give us the pen. Both Tielemans and Kristansen were very poor defensively throughout, albeit going forward okay. Thought we controlled the second half and that really was the "coming of age" performance from Soumare: absolutely immense+
  14. How on earth wasn't Soyuncu given an opportunity to play this season? Absolutely scandalous.
  15. Mahrez. Deemed a dive. Griezeman's contact by Albrighton was outside the box too.
  16. I was in Madrid doing the tour of the Bernabeu stadium, followed by the Atletico quarter final - a tale of two penalties. How times have changed.
  17. What's eating Gilbert Grape.
  18. Literally the definition of insanity tonight. Repeating the tried and tested negative formula and expecting a different outcome. Clearly, Stowell is out of his depth as he had a free hit to mix it up but chose ultra caution instead. Any manager coming in now has a real challenge, but we need to go out there on the front foot, not a whimper like tonight.
  19. Please get Potter!
  20. Great news. A fighting chance to survive the drop now.
  21. Lose today and I'd imagine that will be that for Rodgers? I'd be very surprised if he kept his job, especially after Palace's decision to dispense with Vierra's services this week.
  22. 3 bombscares starting was always going to be a recipe for disaster, and had it not been for some shocking finishing, Blackburn could easily have had 5.
  23. Clearly at odds with Golden Globe judges. Farrell best actor, and Banshees wins best drama/comedy
  24. Banshees was thoroughly brilliant. I'd say Farrell's greatest performance. But the whole cast were superb. A sad film based on a simple premise. Certainly gets you thinking.
