I loathe the corporatisation of football. Players simulating that they’ve been fouled and the money in the game now that is making the game more akin to Formula 1. However, the football is way better than watching what we served in the 80s and 90s. Pleat ball was not great and neither was the football amazing under O’Neill when we played teams like Arsenal. It was all about stopping them playing.

I think Enzo was brilliant for us too and loved what he was doing at our club. The players loved him and he gave academy lads chances and belief. However he was never going to stay when Chelsea came in for him no matter what the club might have tried. There really ought to be some protection for promoted clubs having their manager poached on arrival into the Premier League. It’s hard enough to stay up without being scalped on arrival.

Bollocks. He showed enough in the first cup game to at least get some minutes against Walsall.

It truly beggars belief this isn't the case.

I’m beginning to think Alves needs to leave to further his career. He’s learnt he can’t trust those at the club entrusted with his development. Made to feel very much part of the first team pre-season, quite possibly turning loan moves down as a result only to be effectively binned as soon as he signed his extension. The message to the academy is loud and clear. You can be as skilled and promising as you like, but we’ll start 30+ year old journeymen in front of you and develop other club’s talent ahead of you. We need a new DoF as the academy and first team are like right and left hands on different bodies. Let’s not even go into how financially sensible it would be to develop our own from a selling perspective if ANY promise is shown via first team chances.

Half decent? 🤣 He was excellent last season. I loved his redemption story. Finally played to his strengths by a manager who knew what he was doing. Feeling nostalgic for the latter already.

Cooper out. Not only for the shocking performance tonight but also being negligent with Alves’ development. McAteer too - though he got some minutes. BCD and Ayew picked ahead of them against lowly Walsall is just horrendous.

It’s criminal that Alves is not playing in this game. Made to feel part of the first team by the club, most likely turned down loan moves because of that and now rotting under this negligent manager.
